Yusuke actually didn't get his head in the game at all. All he did was put a front. He's still mentally not over her death. This point is even emphasized when he fights Toguro. (I don't want to speak more on that though as it's getting into spoilers).

Obviously we'll never know how'd he react to the news of Genkai death if Kuwabara have known earlier, but I still don't see why he couldn't take it if the other guys could... Yusuke had his moment to get his head back in the game when he found Genkai, and I know Kuwabara would've done the same. I don't know... I mean even if or when he wins the fight do you think he's going to be happy about it or mad about not knowing about Genkai's death before hand, and that he had to find out from his opponent instead of his friends or teammates? That's just my thinking though

I actually disagree. I think Kuwabara learning about her death from Toguro rather than the others was a benefit. Had he known earlier, it's not a guarantee he would have reacted the same way. From Kuwabara's point of view, Genkai is stronger than both Yusuke and himself. Knowing that she died to Toguro might have made him even more afraid or cautious to even attempt to fight Elder Toguro. If anything it could have thrown off his game more. I'm just speculating of course, because there's no way to really know, but I do believe had he known earlier it would have affected him more negatively. Learning about it in the heat of the moment however, forced a reaction out of him.

Kuwabara gets NO respect from his team. Let's keep it 1000... They could've told him along time ago that Genkai died. It probably would've made him lock in even more. The way they kept it from him didn't make any sense to me. Like it was his relative or like it was some big joke behind his back to keep it from him. Like TF? His character is a huge joke to me, but when something that serious happens to your teammates especially when you are fighting in a tournament to keep each other alive, and even before that being on missions together that's something you shouldn't keep secret 💯

You know, for being such a classic that it is, I've never seen cowboy bebop from start to finish myself outside of parts of random episodes - this is a great reason to finally watch it 😀
