Dodoria could easily take out all 3 Saiyans at this point. The reason that the fights are so good in Dragon Ball and Z/Kai is because the story is woven into the fights rather than being separate event. When Goku shouted, I've still got one arm!", there was already so much emotion in that fight that it was a huge emotional payoff. If you're not watching the Dragon Ballverse for the plot, you're probably not watching much of the show.

in the DBS manga this whole thing is shown in a tiny bit more detail as we see a group of aliens who were resettled on a planet that was taken from the previous inhabitants by the Freeza Army.

Freeza is the one who actually sells the planets. and he sells them to other aliens whose planets have become unlivable or who have been chased off their homeworld by enemies etc, stuff like that. Freeza is the business man, the saiyans were just enforcers.
