Yeah in Japan it's rude to crook your finger and to point. Two things Hisoka does. Temper being used here is more to harden and refine your resolve. Basically to steel yourself.

I think "Ren" as explained at the start of the episode has an unnamed (or maybe its named idk) equivalent in real life. That intense feeling when you know you've just committed yourself to something, like jumping off a cliff into water, but you haven't engaged your muscles into the jump yet.
