I think the stress of moving and getting an illness is getting to me. I feel a bit down on my art when I look at my comparatively lacking rendering style next to artists I admire, haha. π
When I get insecure about this, I want to practice and try to improve. I wish I had more of an idea of what I'm doing though, because when I'm just eyeballing everything, it can feel like flailing in water sometimes.
I wonder what sort of resources I can find that can help me improve.

I think learning about color theory and lighting would be at the absolute top of my to-do list. I get so dazzled when I see my favorite artist's colored work. They're always so vibrant, and coordinated perfectly. π΅ I should see about reaching out more. I don't actually make a bunch of friends online - I just kind of passively admire people. And draw porn. A lot of porn.

I say try and focus on a particular aspect you'd like to improve on. Instead of...well, what you're saying here with 'everything'. That's one way to get overwhelmed and decision paralysis easy. Also maybe poke friend artists that may have a technique you want to learn more about and see if they're willing to show or give pointers? Just a few things to throw out there!

Your art is amazing. I'm not trying to downplay any fears/reservations you may have, but try to focus on what you do well (which is a lot), and focus less on how you feel you are lacking compared to others. Art is a broad space. There really isn't a "right" or a "wrong" :)

Thank you for the comment! I don't believe any groups suitable for me are in my city, but I really should put more effort into finding good online resources. I might take a look at the book you brought up. Light and color are super important and admittedly, I'm pretty slacking in developing those skills. If it's something I get value from I 100% believe in supporting it financially... but admittedly I'm not adverse to trying before buying, haha. Not that I judge anyone else for pirating, it's really just my own personal standard.

Have you considered looking for any art groups near you? I found a life drawing sequence near me that I think helped me out a lot as well as a class on watercolor stuff for pretty cheap at an arts museum and community arts center, respectively. I don't have any specific ones in mind, but you can also search up classes or videos online. Lastly, you're way more advanced than I am, but I really think the Artist's Master Series: Color and Light book is really useful, especially for digital artwork. It's worth a buy, but you can also pirate a PDF
