Maybe the Friends episode he’s referring to is one that is a Rachel celebration and they had to have two different parties, one in Joeys apartment with her father and another in her apartment with her mother. There was a lot of back and forth to avoid them meeting each other.

about the barney ted convo, if we go back to the 3rd episode of the entire show, there was that whole thing of barney telling ted, nothing 'legendary' he does matters unless his best friend is there to see it.

I remember that there's an episode of Friends where they go skiing right after Ross and Rachel break up and Rachel doesn't invite Ross. Their car breaks down and they have to call Ross to save them.
