Making some changes for the new year
🕑 Added 2021-12-23 08:29:35 +0000 UTCSo some of you might have seen the new goal, or have heard the endless bitching I do about my job, but for those who haven't the short story is that I'm trying to quit, and do this full time. That sounds like a super horrible idea until you find out that I only make about 700-800 dollars each month at my current job, so the goal is quite possible if I'm good enough. With this as the main, but not only reason I'll likely be adding a their system, and put some things on timed delays. I'd also have more time to work which means more art getting done and faster game updates.
Below is a list of ideas I'd like to tryout/get feedback on. So let me know if you have any thoughts.
$1 is exactly the same. Tip jar.
$3 See art early, and possibly some votes like what should this character look like, or what kind of scene should I add.
$5 Patreon release of finished updates. With a one monthish delay on public versions (which should help iron out some bugs before being released too)
$10 WIP build releases. Things that aren't finished but are playable and testable for people who can't wait.
$???? Idk for higher tiers I have the tools to make like physical merch if you want stickers or some other stuff? Maybe custom npcs or quests?
I figured now would be a good time to let everyone know before January comes around and starts charging people for stuff.

It's possible but I'm not sure how realistic an idea it is, so most of these tiers would have to be a trial run first just to make sure it all works.

I think that it is a great thing to pursue what one loves doing in a self-sustaining capacity. It can be very difficult and discouraging getting into it, however. Currently, I am trying to become a full-time TTRPG game master, and not a day has gone by where I have not had doubts. Be sure to consider how much your time and effort is worth to you, and not to undervalue it. Simultaneously, bear in mind that, from a business standpoint, especially on a platform like Patreon, lower costing tiers tend to equate to a larger number of supporters. It’s unfortunate, but there is a widespread mentality of people paying one time to download all of a creator’s content from their Patreon, then backing out and only supporting again several months later. If it doesn’t cost as much, they don’t worry about it as much. Another interesting model I’ve seen content creators use is loyalty rewards that only come into effect after having been a supporter for a certain amount of time (e.g. 3 months) — which does a lot to help keep people around. There’s my two cents 😅 I hope it wasn’t completely obsolete!
