The back half of this album is super tough. 100 Schemes to Reap What You Sow is a hell of a run. I sent you guys the new KA album a few weeks ago, but it’s up on streaming now. Definitely deserves the attention, I had to watch some theology videos, easily my AOTY. From my understanding, the reason the album is called Thief Next to Jesus is because there were two thieves crucified next to Jesus, one who penitent and one that was impenitent. The songs on the album paint portraits of both: the impenitent thief is more or less the “thug” stereotype of young black Americans, while the other is black folks who have been coerced by the Christian church in America into the idea that the hardships they’ve had to endure were necessary or deserved.
