My teary moments in those 4 episodes are always those: Zuko & Iroh reunion, toph and sokka hanging from the airship before suki rescues em & Azula‘s crying after she got captured. I have seen this series the first time when i was about 10 so 15 years ago and those scenes (and some more all over the series) always make me tear up and i can‘t really explain it 0:

If ai recall correctly in the director's commentary on this episode they noted wanting Zuko and Azula's fight as tragic because it's a brother and sister dueling to the death. And they didn't want the battle to take priority over the truth of the tragedy. Azula was raised by a tyrant and her story shows the cruelty of war. Beautiful writing and still one of my all time favorite shows showing the audience what hope can look like as well as the influences war. Thank you so much for sharing your reactions I truly have had a great time watching and look forward to what you all watch next!

For more on Zuko's mother and Azula, gotta read the comics. (edit) Oh also, regarding the longevity of the relationships, we know from Yue that the water tribe marrying age is 16, so there's every chance here that Aang and Katara could end up married very young.

This show is one of my favorites. They somehow managed to do a story about children in war who are forced to grow up quickly. They showed the effects it has on families and these peoples mental health, all while being a kids show. The characters are all dynamic, and their power is earned. It’s a great example of how you can write a character who isn’t a Mary Sue, but is still incredibly strong.

It is impossible to watch zuko and iroh reunite without tearing up. He finally learns what unconditional love is like. Also, azula's fall is such a tragedy. Its easy to forget that she's just 14(ish?), until her breakdown after the fight.

SO MANY things to say here but here's two simple ones: To start the mystery of Zuko's mother is revealed in one of the follow-up comics. The face of Avatar Kuruk's love was one of the faces used by Koh the Facestealer to try and get a reaction out of Aang back when they met.
