It's a good observation that Zuko is "loyal to the mission". It reminded me of the episode when he an Aang have encountered the dragons. There, Zuko has rediscovered his true "inner fire", an overwhelming dedication to a cause. Zuko's sticking by Katara and loyalty to the mission seem to be examples of that inner drive of his, the very conviction that now fuels his firebending powers. In addition to that, after learning from the dragons and rediscovering that true source of firebending, he upped his skill considerably, exmplified in his fight with Azula. She easily dominated him every other time they met, yet this time he was pretty much matching her blow for blow.

"Make sure to take his girlfriend." Yep! Suki officially joins the party, at long last. Fun, subtle detail after the talk with Sokka and Zuko. The next morning, Sokka has a lei. He had a romantic night with Suki and got...yeah. Good lord, Grey DeLisle is so good at what she does. As if she doesn't already kill it as Azula, she kills it as Kya (Katara's mother) as well. Also, fun fact: Katara's mother is one of two characters one of my dogs is named after. "He lives with Thanos." Freakin' gold, also, he wishes.

So, I will continue with the comment that I left from episode 8, "The Puppetmaster." I mentioned that Hama's experience hinted at what the Fire Nation did when imprisoning other nations. Remember that when Sozin attacked the airbenders, they were all killed. Essentially, genocide was committed. This is quite heavy for a kid's show. It is assumed with Hama that the waterbenders were tortured while being imprisoned. It can also be assumed that they killed all the waterbending prisoners after Hama escaped because of how she escaped. Fast forward, the Southern Raiders return to the Southern Water Tribe, looking for the last waterbender. Katara's mother, Kya, knew what had happened to the previous waterbenders and assumed that she would just be taken prisoner; however, as Yon Ra mentioned, they would no longer take waterbenders as prisoners. So, yes. Katara's mother was killed, and she and her father returned to a tent with her mother's body lying dead. I can only imagine what a body killed by firebending could look like. Again, this is a kid's show. We have to make our assumptions. In a way, Hama is indirectly responsible for the death of Katara and Sokka's mother.

Spoiler Warning - - - - That's a good point I didn't even think about that lol. I just checked the finale where everyone is reunited and even though there are other swamp members, I don't see Huu, Due, or Tho? Hard to tell but that actually is pretty dark if its true D: Edit: Nvm took me a bit to find but Huu is there lol

Would that imply that the water benders from the swamp have been killed as well after the failed invasion? :o I sincerely hope not.

I can see now that you guys are warming up to Zuko just like you guys were warming up to Sasuke at the end of the Storm series. Now this begs the question, who do you think was more difficult to redeem, Zuko or Sasuke?

I think Ken forgot but Blood Bending can only be used during a full moon.

I always figured that when Katara said her mother was "gone" that she was dead because if she had just been taken then Katara wouldn't have her necklace. Yes there was a possibility that the necklace could have been ripped off of Kya but I felt it just made more sense to have it be a family heirloom.

The old lady who taught katara blood bending knew sheโd use it one day. Thats why she was laughing when she lost. Just a reminder blood bender can only be done during a full moon. She couldnt use it on the man who killed her mother

There's a theory that the Fire Nation stopped keeping waterbenders as prisoners after Hama escaped. That's why they didn't just imprison Katara's mom.
