I’m honestly so self conscious about putting my seat back because I don’t want to inconvenience the person behind me so I never do, but I also don’t use the tray table or the phone holder because I don’t want the person in front of me to feel their seat move. I hold my phone for the entire flight. I also never use the bathroom because I don’t want to inconvenience the people sitting next to me. Also gross.

It's always shorter people who have no concept of what they're doing to the person behind them. A marginal increase in one person's comfort shouldn't come at the total discomfort of someone else.

You're allowed to put your seat back in coach but in my opinion, you're an asshole if you do it. It makes the screen in the seat less comfortable to watch, it makes the tray table less comfortable and it can make most laptops 13 inches and over borderline unusable. However, the biggest reason it should be an unwritten rule is, not every seat on the plane can lean back, so the argument of "if the person in front of you leans back, you lean back" falls apart. The very last row typically can't lean back as well as the row in front of the emergency exit row. Also, some planes have lavatories in the middle of the cabin, the seats in front of those typically can't lean back either.

I’d probably expect them to be voluntarily offering a full refund after someone had an incident like that at their hotel. Even if the person only asked for partial refund.. I guess they’re trying to avoid legal issues with their long bureaucratic process though.
