The performance artist Hasan was talking about is Marina Abramovich. I’m not even a performance art person, but her work is amazing. The exhibit where she stood there and did nothing was called Rhythm 0 (1974) and she left 69 random items on a table near her, and yes, people came in and did very scary stuff to her. The only thing that wasn’t done was probably penetration. This was a 6 hour exhibit and the point of it was Marina declaring herself as just an object in the middle of the exhibit, anyone who comes to participate in it is free to do as they wish with the items on the table. They pointed the gun at her, stripped her down, took pictures of her nude, whipped her, groped her, carried her around the room, cut her, dumped liquids. Some of Marina’s other performance exhibits were recreated, this is the only one that hasn’t been recreated. The way I interpreted it, this was to show the true nature of humanity. Some people did good things and some bad. Some goofy and some dangerous. The nature of things.
