I understand both sides of the argument of wanting to wait before getting a pet in order to mourn but also wanting to skip mourning. My family lost a dog very traumatically a few years ago, and my dad and I wanted a new dog ASAP because we just needed to fill the hole. My mom was not ready for a new dog but still got one for us and to this day my mom has a hard time connecting with our dog and I feel so guilty about it. It is a tough situation to navigate for sure.

My point with all of this was, act morally. Moral values should stem from what’s best for everyone. Hasan has admitted veganism is the moral standard and refuses to do it out of convenience. Maya, someone who eats animals regularly and tries to say it’s okay to do so in moderation….. use that same logic with a human injustice. Racism, patriarchy, sexism. You can’t speak to someone who doesn’t want to listen. They’ll make any excuse to keep oppressing others whether consciously or not. You don’t get a pass.

I really did not like how everyone refused to ACTUALLY engage with what Austin was trying to say. Like he’s sitting there trying to explain each point he made right after he makes them in a way everyone can understand, but from the second he started talking, no one was giving him a chance. They just deferred to autism jokes and poorly thought out, gut-reaction questions to whatever sentence he was saying in the moment. Because god forbid they take 10 minutes (not even in a main episode) to be informative and serious on a subject one of them is clearly very passionate and knowledgable about. Even Will, who insisted that he was engaged and listening, seemed more preoccupied with trying to find a way to make it tea. Because apparently, a disaster where 241 people died isn’t dramatic enough. All of this to say, I really liked and appreciated the aviation segment, and I hope Austin keeps doing it because I find his perspective interesting and engaging. Even if it’s not on this podcast because the other hosts don’t think it is “funny/dazzling” enough. Wherever it ends up, I’ll be tuned in

I would recommend his stream if you want to hear sincere takes even outside of politics, sometimes he builds on his thoughts about things different times they come up instead of all in one moment but he’s had many really great, genuine talks on there that he isn’t allowed to have here. you learn some of his humor more as you watch him but like QT he’s often sarcastic/dry in his own way and I know that that’s not for everyone. but I recommend his stream or even looking up his videos on youtube on whatever topic. hasanhub.com (it’s fan-made and Hasan has shouted them out on stream a few times) can help you find genuine fan channels instead of those ai bot ones.

I was shocked when Will jumped into to be like “Hasan has never not fucked his way through a breakup.” because Hasan has openly talked on his stream about how with his first breakup with someone that iirc he had been with for awhile and had loved he did try that but it made him feel empty and hollow because he was just trying to feel the void that was left after they were gone. He’ll still hookup instead of immediately jumping into a new relationship but he gives himself a bit of time to himself first and then it’s a matter of hooking up someone he’s hitting it off with so it’s not empty but having fun. I thought Will would know that and maybe he did and just disappointingly but unsurprisingly with this podcast just didn’t let him speak genuinely. it’s frustrating that Hasan only gets to joke (and people get mad at him) or he’s just always treated as a joke. there are sometimes the hosts let him speak when he’s being sincere but even when it’s not inherently political they still just shut and look bored or annoyed. (even when it is political they’ve all started touching on politics a bit, even QT with tariffs and such, so it’s just really off putting to me when it’s only a problem with Hasan.) I know others don’t care but it’s gross seeing the others get so much credit for almost every little thing and Hasan is just here for ??? I like to think it’s more than the hosts and many commenters taking their insecurities out on him (and more than clout for the hosts) but holy shit let him be genuine too. Hasan can’t even joke back at then without commenters getting legitimately pissed at him but they can take their jokes so far that they’re openly mocking him or like in this instance shutting down a genuine moment and then comments will say it’s fine cause it’s ‘just jokes’ and ‘he deserves it anyway it keeps him humble’ and act like he’s a dumbass with only superficial thoughts on everything. it’s gross. it’s not Hasan who needs to be humbled here. I really wish Hasan wouldn’t have just let Will go “let’s move on!” and make sure he got to explain his thoughts on this because it’s a very healthy take to encourage. but they’d genuinely probably just keep making jokes at his expense even when he’s trying to be sincere anyway. and everyone in the comments would say he deserves it and act like the other hosts are so much more funny or even empathetic than they actually are or ever have been. I know he doesn’t mind (and I know this is a casual podcast with friends and even that he’s said most of his close friends are in NY so maybe he just doesn’t have those expectations for these guys) but I wish he would stand up for himself since the others get defended as “just joking” but if Hasan jokes around he’s taken super seriously, gets called an asshole or whatever in the comments. ugh, anyway just venting while I still have a membership. like I said I mostly just skip Fear& now but I still have a couple months of my patreon membership and I like Maya’s collabs with Hasan. Maybe one day Hasan will also be allowed to be a host that gets to open up and be sincere about what he cares about and not constantly treated as a joke. maybe.

In my opinion, I loved Austin's segment more as a separate video than in the podcast. QT mentioned good points in that Austin would shut down side comments (which was appropriate because it's a sad situation that deserves to be taken seriously), that most of his contributions were hypotheticals, and that there was just a lot of technical jargon only experts in aviation understand. In a podcast that's mostly lighthearted with 5 people with different interests, you can't expect everyone to just sit down and not make any comments. That's why I believe Austin should've just led to the juicy stuff that people understand like the theory that it could've been a murder on the pod and then delved more deeply into it in a separate video (which he did).

as a window seat preferrer in relation to Hasan saying “I don’t know why people love being on the fucking window seat”, I also don’t give a shit about the actual window either as someone who’s been on enough planes. but in an upright zero space economy seat, I like the damn wall/side of the plane to actually lean against especially if it’s a red eye or international flight that I’m trying to sleep on and I stand by that.

I do not care what anyone else says, I love Austin Plane Talk because honestly I have been scared to get on a plane for like the last 2 yrs. And I was someone that flew quite often with no anxiety issues at all. Hearing Austin talk about plane failures does calm me a bit. Which is important to me because I am finally going on a plane agan in Sept And I am fully going to be DM'ing Austin when I book the flight to make sure the plane I am on is ok. That the flight towers are fine. And the flight path. Whatever. I will need him for this. And it is only a 3 hr flight.

everything you consume has calories but our government has a law where if you have like less than 0.1 calories you can call it zero. Like they were saying calories is how much of that thing your body can use. the reason to check calories is that if you consume more than you use then it becomes fat for your body to use later.
