I want to defend Austin for taking PPIs for a full year because I have actually been in that exact same situation 😭 I was on pantoprazole for over a year because of suspected but unconfirmed GERD. Maybe what he didn’t communicate well is that doctors just be prescribing PPIs if you have a GERD related issue that they can’t figure out. Clock this man’s doctor for letting him take them for a year not him 😭 Also they really are a pain to get off after you’ve been on them for so long. It usually starts a few days after your last dose (especially if you have not weened enough) but it can cause really bad reflux and cramping so I hope he’s able to transition off them smoothly. Good luck man 🫡 and know that while this case is WILD you’re not the only one who’s been there 💀

i'm a medical biller and united (& their subsidiaries) is our biggest problem carrier by FAR. like BCBS is definitely second but it doesn't even come close. i've seen all types of bullshit from united, denials that don't make sense and lying about reprocessing claims and using AI to prematurely close appeals and representatives who will tell you just about anything, honesty and empathy be damned, to get you off the phone. but the billing office was a hoot last week, and the world seems a little brighter.
