I am a doula and loved this birth talk segment. The way I was saying breach thru the screen lmao and the procedure to try and flip is called an inversion. As per the underwater blood balloon idea- the umbillacle cord will rot off very soon after birth. The placenta which cases the whole baby is also pushed out post-birth and that is what the cord is attached to. It is an organ and without the uterus and mother to give it blood it will die and rot like any organ that sits outside of a body. It stops pumping blood naturally after a short period and people do what is called "delayed cord clamping" meaning they let the blood pulse from the placenta to the baby, once the pulsing stops the cord turns white and that's when they cut it. Before, it was standard practice that they would clamp and cut when baby takes first breaths which is fine too there are different benefits and risks to either side, but if you didn't cut the cord the baby would most likely get an infection from the connection to the rotting tissue or potentially die.

If you're wondering how bad it was physically, my mom got surgery down there years later- I believe it was labioplasty. When it came to my brother it was like, "oh that was fast"

Whenever the topic of birth comes up it truly fascinates me how little people know. A major way I cope with things that scare me is to learn anything and everything there is to know about that thing. My whole life I have known I wanted children and I will give birth at some point so I’ve been learning about pregnancy/birth basically since I got access to the internet. Like I was in 2nd or 3rd grade straight up watching babies come out so Fandy’s stream was so mild and mundane that it was very amusing watching all these people be so engrossed by it. That being said birth is fascinating and I agree with Will that everyone should know a little more about it. Congrats to Fandy, Bryan, and Luna🥳🥳🥳

i was always a little obsessed with pregnancy in graduate school and went on to work in obstetrics research. I can’t wait to go watch the delivery stream, I’m so glad Will was able to see how beautiful and scary and fascinating the process is! Still not sure if i’ll ever do it myself but it’s so so so so important to support research and public education about pregnancy, delivery, etc. ❤️❤️❤️ (PS, perineal laceration isn’t guaranteed, but incidence can be around 80% of vaginal deliveries. Most are minor, with severe tears occurring in <10%. Always tell your doctors about concerns and ask questions!)
