Hey Austin, quartz is a more popular choice because it is higher durability scratch resistant and lower maintenance. Marble is a softer material and has many issues, especially in a bathroom or kitchen application with high traffic. And while typically marble is slightly more expensive than quartz, it really does depend on the specific material. Many quartz slabs are actually more expensive per sf than comparable marbles. Marble is also a bit more dated of a material as well.

I spent my life in Fairmont and Marriot hotels because members my family worked there. Marble is a sign of colonialism, how many mountains in Italy need to be destroyed for our countertops. Also it’s an insane burden on the planet to import these materials across the world and account for frequent cracks which are repurposed into quartz. Real wood vs veneered materials is valid criticism IF it’s being used for chairs and tables, not walls or cabinets.

As soon as I heard how little time they had, I knew the travel would feel brutal. They really underestimated how big China is. If they were to go again, take it slower and go to some more peaceful places (like mountains and national parks), it would feel less chaotic. They are visiting all the highlights but I feel like Zhangjiajie or Guilin would blow their minds. Really glad they’re enjoying it though. Especially Will, who wasn’t that excited for it.
