I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder earlier this year. Even as a pharmacist myself I was hesitant to take meds, but eventually I really needed it. Lexapro zapped my ability to o****m within like 2 weeks of use on 20mg QD. It was so upsetting/frustrating/scary because it didn’t decrease my actual libido. I got switched to Viibryd (vilazodone) which came out after I graduated so I wasn’t as familiar with it. Turned out to work even better than the Lexapro (although, I do miss the just how much more “unbothered” I was by things that normally would have triggered me). But the Viibryd has been like 75% as effective and no sexual side effects for me. Drugs are cool because science is truly incredible - hence my profession. But ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR OWN PHYSICIAN before trying medication!!!

From a complete outsiders perspective of you Austin if you care at all, I think the relationship with sex is just slightly unhealthy, almost like how I personally used to be too. To me it seems like it’s used in part to cope and have that dopamine hit when things suck/your angry/etc more than it is to JUST have fun in a pure and simple way. I don’t think it’s entirely for coping or that the entirety of the relationship you have with sex is bad tho don’t get me wrong. I used to be the same way that’s really the only reason I’m saying any of this, it took me a while and took me taking it further than where you are right now in regards to how I viewed sex to really realize how bad it had gotten. I also would not take mental health drugs or take hair loss stuff because if I lost my sex drive I thought I would like, lose a part of me and personality and THATS where it starts to get dangerous. I would prioritize sex over hanging out with friends, to the point where I’d be searching for people on Grindr, with my friends around. At a point it gets to you (general you not YOU specifically) prioritizing 10-30 minutes of feel good over an extended period of feel good that comes with getting your life together, kinda like how drugs affect people’s lives. It’s just a slippery slope so be careful Austin! All love, stay safe!
