Undulations and sewers - Another update while I get stuff done!
🕑 Added 2021-09-21 16:18:37 +0000 UTCHi Guys!
Hopefully you can see here the cool undulating road effect I've managed to achieve for the cobblestones! it's a LOT more striking with depth perception, a bit like the hill video - cameras SUCK at capturing that magic so if you want to see the true effect, you'll have to make it ;)
Having the road uneven like this, as well as having the gutters slope down I think are two easy, little details that add SO MUCH to the feel of the build - they make it feel like a real road, rather than a terrain tile 😁
You can also see on the left there, the variant kerb that will have a paper printable template to cut using the hot wire, using a similar method as the one used for the blades in the soul columns video - gluesticks...
Very easy to cut out, and another awesome little detail that brings life to the street :)
Progress update wise, as you can see I've just finished basecoating the bulk of the tiles, painting proper begins tomorrow :) I'm very happy with the final building method and result, I ended up scrapping the sanding block idea and reverting to trimming with a knife, but AFTER gluing to the tile, which helps line up a 90 degree finish!
I spent much of yesterday and some of today fixing my mistakes with lining up the clay and the edge of the tile - it took a while but this is the kind of thing I can find out for you guys and help you avoid when you make things yourself :)
And there is no way I could do it without your support - I have never felt less pressured to rush a project and end up under-delivering just to make sure the channel gets enough ad money to keep going, I'm able to work at a sensible pace and make sure the end result is all the better for you guys.
Thank you all so much for helping me make videos the way I (we!) both want them to be made, not the way YouTube wants us to make them :)

Rolled into clay - there'll be some tips on that in the video :)

Awesome work again! You've been a great inspirations to me and my girlfriend. One question with regards to the cobblestone street. Did you use a roller pressed into foam or clay? Or were they 3D printed.

I still need to find time to print and check those out! I've been holding off til I have time to work on the updated Mountainblocks :)

Did I read the word JIG? Woohoo. I love making jigs. Almost more than making the piece itself. Call me crazy but do call me. I just made myself STLs jigs for cutting and magnet marking roads and rivers. I'm thinking of putting them on MyMiniFactory or Cults3D for a small amount, just to cover the price of making them. The mountain jigs are yours to distribute to patrons but, with your permission, I could also place them on MyMiniFactory or Cults3D.
