Honestly, when this is over Axel really should punish Tywin in some small way. Having him give the mountain and lorch to dorne would both do that and give Arianne a reason to visit kings landing with her uncle. I suspect Axel and Oberon as well as the sand snakes would get along great. Besides, having the all the paramount in one place may be the only way to get Tywin to agree. Only thing he cares about is his families reputation and it's not like the mountain and lorch are irreplaceable.

He really needs to just walk into the small council chambers and chuck some daggers. Killing off Pycelle, Varys and Peter would make his ruling much easier. Especially if he gets someone competent to be his hand instead of Jon Arryn. Most of the problems Robert had were due to just how badly Jon did his job. Peter wouldn't have been able to do everything he did if it wasn't for him looking the other way every time an issue with finances came up.

If Axel was a bit more devious, he'd wait till the night before or hours prior to the Trial and covertly smite the chosen enemy combatants, so it looks like Renly chickened out.
