He literally did do shows where he’d talk at random, unrehearsed. You need to be so confident in your ability to be funny to do that, comedy without a safety net. Michael Parkinson was one of the guys in the audience, he had an amazing talk show and had Billy on it loads of times and he was always hilarious just going off on tangents all the time. Parky’s show was huge, he had guys like Muhammad Ali on it!
