I can see the appeal of wanting to show ~something~, but I don't think you should show EVERYTHING of the impact. Maybe a closeup of her arms, maybe a leg buckling, enough to let us know that it hit, and it did NOT go well for her... but nothing that shows the FULL extent of the damage. Giving us bits and pieces lets us share in the audience shock, like the whole scene has created a ringing in our ears, and we can't quite process what we've just seen. The full damage shot is best saved for what I assume is coming up in a page or two.
Cirian
The drama comes from the suspense of ~not~ seeing it.
Edolon
My other thought is by not showing it exactly you let the reader come up with the worst image in their own mind? I don’t know both seem like valid paths? I’m not sure there’s a best,

I can just hear that semi-musical tone a microphone makes in a situation like this when it's knocked over...
Rick Griffin
I've actually been thinking about this and I'm considering that I did too much build-up here to not show the impact. I think I skipped over it because I wasn't sure HOW to show it, but I had an idea yesterday that I think would work
Valerio
I don't know. I mean, all of the build-up was supposed to find its climax in Saki's 'sacrifice'. I think the punch had to be delivered harder to the reader. Once, Rick did this with a scene in the "Jungle Fever" Housepets! arc -but it worked because the whole scene was built in one page. One moment, Uncle Deadeye stops Jata's mighty punch. Then they look at each other, and Jata is visibly scared now. And then cut to birds flying away. Insert joke. And it worked just fine, it was dramatic and funny. Now? It's like something's amiss, emotion is not fully delivered. The best solution would've been seeing Saki's sacrifice reflected in Ideka's eye, making us feel the weight of her mistake together with her. Just my 2 cents. I'm going to crawl in my corner now...
Valerio
...Are you planning to put the page where Saki blocks in the paper edition? Because it's...weird not to see what happened to big black woman. Such a dramatic moment, lost!
Arid
Never seen beach volleyball turn into a murder before
Edolon
On one hand I like there being a few days between pages, gives you time to think about and appreciate the page, hypothesize where the story is going, talk with people about it. On the other sometimes the next page can’t come soon enough :p Both these things are true Hopefully Ideka knows lots of healing magic too
Sicle_Family
Part of me wonders if this was Saki's plan. Beating her in sports seems like limited room for healing. Driving Ideka to hurt her (Saki) could really open Ideka up to what have I done remorse. While at the same time Saki's profession may have had her built up a tolerance for being hurt and able to recover.

Ideka should probably still be watching the ball.
Vaga the jaguar aka spice seagoat

Vaga the jaguar aka spice seagoat
pure story telling love this soooo much
Cirian
I think the worry and dread of the scene is much more impactful by not showing us.
cerberus0814
No impact scene?

I fixed! I missed it somehow through the whole comic XD
Andrea Andrew
It’s okay. Saki rolled a 10 for health bar.
Grey Hawk
Hopefully Saki will come out fine from all this, but seems this was the push Ideka needed even if a bit hurtful
Grey Hawk
*Her, Ideka is a woman

And now you discover that winning wasn't everything...
Thomas G.
Ooooooh ... that's gotta hurt. And I feel like she knew she wasn't going to lose .. so she had to make her "lose".
Vet
She took the hit!! That’s one way to break Ideka’s wall. Sacrifice…..
Beeton
