As I understand it, the vampire couple was all about survival and protecting each other. Lenore was about having a sense of belonging. She keeps talking about what her role is. And she's lost the moment she's not needed. And Carmilla is all about revenge against those "crazy old men". Which makes her the perfect foil for Isaac, because thats how he started as a character at the beginning of the show. Him going to kill Carmilla can be interpreted as him killing his past self in a way. He's not just reacting to the world, he's gaining agency
