“Mason, wait!” Noah blurted out. “Of course, you can sleep here. It's just, um...” he trailed off, hesitating.
Mason turned back, raising an eyebrow. “What?”
“It’s just... has Heather told you, um...” Noah paused again.
Mason flashed a reassuring grin. “That you're gay?”
“Uh, yeah. It’s just... not everyone is comfortable sharing a bed with someone gay, especially some straight guys.”
Mason’s grin didn’t waver. “Listen, I don’t care. I’m not one of those toxic guys who say ‘no-homo’ before giving another guy a hug. Plus, my uncle’s gay, and I love hanging out with him and his husband—they’re awesome. So, I really don’t mind. You seem like a pretty cool guy yourself, and that’s all that matters.”
There was something about Mason that felt incredibly genuine and sincere, and Noah couldn’t help but feel surprisingly at ease around him.
Noah made room, straightening his large duvet. “I only have one duvet... is it okay if we share?”
Mason didn’t answer with words. Instead, he simply made his way to Noah’s bed and slid under the duvet. For the first time, Noah felt an unfamiliar sense of intimacy with someone. He had shared a bed with Heather many times, but this felt completely different—very different.
Mason smiled, looking comfortable. “So cozy, thanks man!”
They both heard Heather snoring from the other room and couldn’t help but laugh together.
“She’s really out cold. What happened there, if you don’t mind me asking?” Noah quizzed. Mason didn’t seem bothered at all. He leaned back on his hands, his expression turning playful as he recounted the night.
“So, Heather and I were kind of getting into the groove, you know? Things were heating up, and it was going great. But then, out of nowhere, she just passed out,” he said with a chuckle, shaking his head at the memory.
Noah raised an eyebrow, a smirk forming on his lips. “Really? Just like that? Talk about a mood killer.”
“Right?” Mason laughed, shaking his head. “I obviously didn’t want to do anything after she fell asleep, you know? So, I figured I’d find the bathroom instead. But then I ended up stumbling into your room.”
Noah felt a flutter of excitement at Mason’s admission, his cheeks warming slightly. “And what do you think about that? Stumbling in here?”
Mason’s smile widened as he leaned closer. “Honestly? I’m kind of glad I did. I mean, I get to meet you. You seem like a really nice dude.
“I’m glad you think so. I mean, I’m basically a stranger, and now I’m lying in your bed. Sorry again, man,” Mason said with a sheepish grin.
Noah waved it off with a smile. “Don’t worry about it. You’re far from the strangest thing Heather’s brought home.”
Mason chuckled, raising an eyebrow. “Really?”
“Yeah, don’t get me wrong. Heather is kind of a social butterfly, while I’m a bit more skeptical,” Noah admitted, surprised by how easy it was to open up to Mason.
“I get that. I might come across as kind of outgoing, but sometimes I just love to lay in my bed and watch... um, never mind.”
“What? Now you have to say!” Noah’s curiosity was piqued.
“You’ll think I’m lame,” Mason chuckled.
“Listen, I’m lame. I’m single, 18, and just moved out. But I’d rather stay home and watch The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
“No way!” Mason exclaimed. “That was what I was going to say! I like to hang out in my bed and binge The Summer I Turned Pretty too, haha!”
“No way! We must watch some before sleeping, then.”
“Count me in.” Mason scooted closer, and Noah felt the warmth radiating from him as he picked up his phone. “I have a headset so we don’t wake Heather. I lost my AirPods for the millionth time, so these are just analog ones.”
He handed Mason one of the cords, and as Mason put it in his ear, the cord pulled them even closer together. Noah could feel the slight hair on Mason’s thigh. He quickly opened Netflix and pressed play. Of course, it started right at the scene showcasing Jer’s stunning abs. Noah felt embarrassed but could only discern the faintest grin on Mason, who didn’t seem to notice—or at least pretended not to.
“Yeah, he’s kind of the reason I started watching. It was my cousin Anna, the daughter of my Uncle John and Uncle Elijah, who said I looked so much like this Jer from The Summer I Turned Pretty. So, of course, I had to check it out. And then I just had to watch it to the end.”
Mason facepalmed, looking embarrassed. “Yeah, she’s right, though. I noticed it right away.”
“Really?” Mason seemed suddenly proud.
“Yeah, it’s hard to miss,” Noah continued. “So you think he’s hot, then?”
Mason looked intrigued. “Are you kidding? He’s my dream guy! He’s not just sexy; that cute smile—I could die,” Noah responded without thinking.
Mason’s expression shifted, becoming even more prideful and content, if that was possible. “So you think I’m hot, then?”
“I mean, that’s kinda hard to miss as well. But yeah. Hey, you asked! It’s not my fault you bear a striking resemblance to a TV heartthrob,” Noah teased, a smirk on his face.
Mason laughed, leaning back on his hands. “I mean, I’ll take that as a compliment! So, does this mean you have a type?”
“Definitely. Cute, charming, and apparently a bit cocky,” Noah shot back, raising an eyebrow.
“Cocky? Me? Never!” Mason feigned shock, placing a hand dramatically over his heart. “I’m just confident in my undeniable hotness.”
Noah rolled his eyes, chuckling. “Confidence is one thing, but you might want to tone down the self-love a notch.”
“Self-love is essential!” Mason replied with a laugh. “Besides, it’s you who thinks I’m hot.”
“Yeah, you are,” Noah said, smirking. “But beware: an inflated ego isn’t exactly charming!”
“Hey, it’s nice to hear compliments, regardless!” Mason shot back, his grin widening.
“And hey, at least I’m not boring,” he added with a wink.
“No, you’re definitely not boring,” Noah admitted, his smile growing as he leaned back against the pillows. “This is actually turning out to be a pretty great night.”
“Yeah,” Mason chimed in, a playful glint in his eye. Neither of them was paying much attention to the series playing on the screen. “And you’re not too shabby yourself.”
Suddenly, Noah’s demeanor shifted completely, a hint of sadness creeping into his eyes. “No, I’m definitely not hot,” he said softly.
Mason immediately shook his head, a determined look in his eyes. “Yes, you are!. You’re seriously underestimating yourself. You’re handsome, Noah. Anyone can see that.”
Noah shifted uncomfortably, brushing off the compliment. “I don’t know, man. I just don’t see it.”
Mason leaned in closer, his tone softening. “Look, I’m being genuine. You have this vibe that’s just… magnetic. Trust me, I’m not the type to throw around compliments just to be nice.”
Noah met Mason’s gaze, feeling a warmth spread through him at the sincerity in Mason’s eyes. For a moment, the air between them felt electric, a spark igniting that neither could ignore.
“Really?” Noah asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Absolutely,” Mason replied, a playful smile forming on his lips. “And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Heather talked about you all the time.”
“And what about you? How do you know Heather?” Noah asked, curiosity sparking in his eyes.
“Oh, we met a few nights ago at a bar. She was definitely the life of the party,” Mason replied, grinning. “We hit it off right away. She’s a blast.”
“Yeah, she is,” Noah agreed, feeling a mix of pride for Heather and a hint of jealousy at the thought of Mason being interested in her. “So, have you two hung out a lot?”
Mason chuckled. “Not really. Just tonight. But I wouldn’t mind coming back, especially if it means hanging out with you as well.”
Noah felt a blush creeping up his cheeks at Mason’s compliment. “Really?”
“Yeah, really,” Mason said, looking surprisingly sincere.
“So, what’s the scoop on this place? You and Heather just moved in?” Mason asked, leaning back casually.
“Yeah, just a few weeks ago. It’s pretty chill, but I’m still getting used to living on my own,” Noah explained, settling against the headboard.
“So, do you mind if I ask…” Mason began, his expression turning a bit more serious, “what’s it like being openly gay? I mean, I obviously respect it, but I’m curious.”
Noah appreciated Mason’s genuine interest. “It has its challenges,” he admitted. “But honestly, I feel like being true to myself is worth it. It’s all about finding the right people to surround yourself with.”
Mason nodded, his gaze steady. “I admire that. It takes a lot of courage to be yourself.”
“So.. How is it to be straight then”? Since we are being open? Noah asked, feeling emboldened.
“Straight? I would’t know actually”. Mason turned to face Noah.
“What?” Noah exlaimed.

Haha, I’ve gotta say, I did not see that coming! A guy who’s always seemed straight suddenly ending up in bed with another guy — that twist totally threw me. I get the bi-curious angle, but wow, didn’t expect it to actually happen… especially while his date was left in her room knocked out! 😅 As a gay man, I see those moments through a totally different lens — and honestly, it makes the whole thing even more fascinating (and kind of hilarious) to read. You really know how to keep your readers on their toes!
