She peered past me, clearly suspicious, but said, “Well, 30 minutes, okay? Go take a shower and meet us down there.”
“Yeah, will do. Thanks, Mom.”
She started to turn, then paused, frowning slightly. “Did I just hear something? From the bathroom?”
My heart jumped. “Huh? Oh, yeah, no—it’s just the air conditioner kicking back on. Noisy thing.”
She gave me one last look, then nodded. “Okay. See you in a bit.”
I closed the door slowly, let out a breath, and leaned back against it.
As I leaned back against the door, catching my breath, I suddenly heard the shower turn on.
Curious—and still slightly stunned—I stepped toward the bathroom. I laughed, eyes rolling as we grabbed towels and started drying off.
While I was toweling my hair, Jake looked at me. “Hey, there's a beach party tonight with my frat bros. You should come. Fair warning though—they party hard. And they love fresh meat.”
I blinked, still naïve as hell. “I mean… sounds fun? I’ll try. I’ve got dinner with my folks, but maybe after?”

At the door, Jake leaned in for one more kiss, checking the hallway. “Coast looks clear.”
Then he slipped out—barely—sprinting down the hallway in the same clothes as yesterday.
“Bye Mormon boy.” He teased as he looked back at me. Making him almost knock into a maid, who turned slowly and gave us both the quietest, most judgmental side-eye imaginable.
A second later, my parents appeared at the hallway corner.
“There you are, honey!” my mom said. “Ready for breakfast? We can pray down in the breakfast hall before eating, like we do back home. Nothing like starting the day with some prayers.”
I smirked and nodded, thinking I could definitely think of better ways to start the day.
I tugged at my shirt, trying not to look freshly wrecked.
“You’re glowing,” she added.
“Just that vacay glow,” Dad said, giving me a pat on the back.
I smiled awkwardly. If only they knew… this glow is strictly post-nut.
I caught the maid giving me one last side glance—totally bombastic by now.
I just smiled and walked a little taller.
