I think if they could make the cure reversible then yes, i.e sent to prison for 10 years and then spend another 10 years after that before a tribunal to decide if can get their powers back. If there's then a repeat offence can look into taking them away more permanently

I understand the whole setting a precedent thing, but I think in a world with super powers and aliens, we would forgo the usual court status quo and let it be a complete case-by-case thing. When someone is clearly using the power for evil, take their shit away, simple.

It's complicated. I'd say you should take away their power if they used it during the crime and/or hurt (or killed) someone. If their power is irrelevant to the crime, it would be unnecessary to force them to use the cure. Let's say the Flash steals something (for whatever reason) without ever using his power. It doesn't make sense to force him to take the cure as punishment. In Frost's case it would be complicated though...

I think it should only for CERTAIN meta-humans, like the most dangerous and evil ones like Cicada. anyone else like Frost, who has changed a lot in the last few years, it shouldn't be used a punishment.

No, it’s a slippery slope. Although the “born this way” reasoning doesn’t apply to this generation of OG particle accelerator or satellite metas (dark matter + whatever was happening to them at the time gave them powers, not some existing “metagene”), it will eventually apply to the next generation when they start having kids and it could affect them. Plus false convictions happen all the time.

I would like to compare this to the death penalty, but not because I think it is as bad as the death penalty. I think it should only be used for severe crimes, like multiple murders. Also, like the death penalty, the effects can't be reversed, meaning just like if someone is given the death penalty and they are later found to be innocent you can't bring them back to life, if you are given the meta human cure and later found to be innocent, you wouldn't be able to get your powers back.

No, because being a meta human is who you are. In contrast, it can be the same thing as Frost where they think you did this crime and you didn’t. Now if you had a son or daughter and they saw your powers taken away your son or daughter is going to become a villain.

If it was based on a realistic justice system they'd have to spend years and years going through appeals, similar to the death sentence. It'd be much easier, and probably cheaper, to just put a power dampener on them.

It's hard to say really, but I say no, I think if it's a mass murder they get the sentence any normal one would get and they have there powers dampened when in prison. If someone murders people by strangling you don't cut off his hands and let him go, but most meta's can probably function normally without powers were as people really can't function normally without hands, plus chemical castration was a thing (maybe still is) so I don't know it's a worthy debate that could be talked about for hours.

Definitely NOT..... taking someone's powers is taking a part of you. Avatar asked the same question about the bending removal. Meta abilities are a part of each meta they should not be removed forcibly. Anything else I wanted to say Aaron has already said it.

Yes. The whole the powers are a part of them argument makes no sense. What if a criminal really loves guns and says guns are a part of them? Would you still let them use guns? Also I thought it was weird how they said you can’t change how you were born because the meta powers were from the accelerator, they weren’t born with them.

No because it's more than a potential weapon - it's a part of who they are and maybe like Frost they can change. If they are really that dangerous put them in jail or put a dampener on them until they've served their time

No. What if they were wrongfully convicted and got their powers furcefully removed, like Frosty said, it's not a gun, it's a part of who metas are, part of their identity. There are meta-prisons, sure people escape, but normal people escape from normal prisons too, so just built better prisons, with better f'n security system, not this cure bullsh!t.......I hated that cure stuff since they introduced back in season 5, should've never even invented it!

No, but it should be an option to prove good will. For example if a Meta wants them to believe that they're good, then he should have the option to take the Cure and get treated a little nicer. If you understand what i mean

Maybe in some alternate reality with a better justice system, but seeing how the state ran their case against Frost does not bode well. I feel like everybody would end up losing their powers because of circumstantial evidence/ baseless speculation, as we saw when the cure was destroyed and they blamed frost with nothing to go on.

honestly I think yes, it is part of who they are true. but at the same time, if they keep abusing their powers. murdering then they do not deserve and letting them keep their powers will allow them continue hurting people. Meta abilties are a gift. if you sqaunder that gift you lose it. plus they constantly escape from prison anyway so you remove the ability and then even if they escape the evil they can do is limited. its easy for us living in the real world to condemn forced removal as a bad thing but when your living in a world where the dude with flamethrower hands commits mass murders every other week you might be like lets execute him or at least limit his potential for mass murder

In my opinion the cure should ONLY be forced upon to meta humans that have committed very serious crimes like killing 5+ people or some shit. Frost doesn’t deserve the cure because the only crime I really think she committed was attempted murder. So it would be unjust from the court for her to take the cure

Its a slippery slope, it would start with taking powers from truly evil people. Then it might devolve into getting rid of powers from people that did less and less horrific crimes. Might even become a solution for people they just can't trust or might do evil deeds.

How was team flash's first thought not "oh shit, Frost is in trouble. We saved the world a few times lets call in all our favors with POTUS and get this shut down."? Like compare Frost's criminal past to Oliver Queen's and the president eulogized him on live tv.

This is definitely a subject that as you said needs to be tackled in a case by case basis however I'd say that if a meta uses his powers to steal a bank for example (no lives at risk) they should be given a second chance. If they commit even the smallest of crimes after that, the powers should be taken away. If the powers are used to kill someone I'd say it's definitely fair for the powers to be removed immediately.

It's exactly the same as in X-Men 3 when they came up with a Mutant cure. As an option they can choose, sure, but it's a part of how they were born, you can't just take that away. That would be like outlawing gay marriage.

Honestly, it depends on the meta and the crime. If it's a hero meta like Flash, and they committed a small or unintentional crime, then maybe not. But if it's a villain meta like Reverse Flash, who commits crimes regularly, then hell yeah! In conclusion, maybe.

What about the technology that basically mimics meta abilities being a normal regular thing? Take away a villain's powers an they just find technology that lets them do more crimes (Ie them not being in jail lets them do more crimes). Plus either this 'cure' changes a persons personality or it doesn't and criminals remain on the street (ice powers or a gun both kill people). It makes no sense to do just the 'cure' but, doing the cure AND jail makes the cure relatively mute and means false lockups are now far more permanent.

I dont think criminals should get their bodies or DNA altered against their will. I see it as a breach of human rights. Those measures should be voluntary. If the crime is to grave or dealing with repeated offender give them life in prison. And allow convict/defendant to request the use of the cure as a show of good faith. But no mandatory usage.

If the person who is receiving the punishment had committed multiple crimes or using powers to harm others in any way should have their powers taken as punishment.

well.. this is a discussion... at least from my opinion, there should be many factors to qualify for this kind of punishment. like, how large scale is the crime? city wide, country-wide, worldwide or multiverse wide? what exactly is the crime? have they shown remorse? and so many things to consider. besides, Frost might just end up on another Task Force X if that's ever still a thing. lol

Absolutely not. You would be stripping them of a part that makes them uniquely who they are. Not to mention that it would be setting a dangerous precedent for that punishment to be abused. We all know that those kinds of actions are always unethically used to harm targeted sects of people.

i understand that forcing a cure as punishment is wrong but when we got people with powers like Eobard can you really say it would be too bad a way of thinking? S5 they had reverse flash locked up in the year 2049 with his powers he found a way to use Nora and free himself. im just saying if this was batman he would be like “you know what ima keep this on the side just in case just in case guys.. don’t be mad” 🤷🏽‍♂️

Typically they can't control what their powers are, so punishing them specifically for that would seem wrong. But I believe they should be able to remove them if they can't seem to be rehabilitated, as long as they try to fix them, and doesn't work. That's when I feel it would be okay
