He does it literally for the same reason that we watch Blind Wave. To see others' reactions. It's extremely common and probably something that you have done subconsciously as well.

Lots of people do that. If you have ever went to a stand up show and watched the crowd you will notice that some people look to others when they find something funny. You can find instances of this every time they show the crowd at these events. Seeing how other people react to something that you like is common, otherwise you wouldn't be here.
