I wouldn't want a surgeon operating on me that doesn't want to be a surgeon. I get how important it is to have such an occupation in the apocalypse but everyone deserves to be happy.

A forced oath to get a degree that is really just to bind you in court if you do some messed up stuff abusing your medical licence; You can't expect a human to sacrifice their entire self and life because of a legal agreement disguised as a moral oath.

I don't watch the show, but in a zombie apocalypse, you need to do whatever you can to help your group survive. If it's something you're good/educated in, but you don't personally care to do anymore, then I'm sorry, but you don't have the luxury of that choice anymore. As long as it doesn't endanger you or your loved ones, do it. For the greater good of the group.

With 50,000 people there has to be at least one other surgeon in the community so I dont think he has to worry or have any guilt toward it. He should just do what makes himself happy.

Just wanted to clear something up: Aaron's daughter, Gracie, was found in season 8 by Rick when he and Daryl infiltrated a Savior outpost. Rick killed Gracie's father in a brutal fight then found her in her crib after. That's why she's only a little younger than Judith. The baby they saved from the whisperers is named Adam and is now Alden's son. Also, RJ is Rick's last living child by blood since Judith is Shane's.
If he’s trying to keep it a secret that he’s a surgeon, he may be screwed. Yumiko told those 2 interviewers that she was inquiring about someone in the community who is a neurosurgeon.

If i was in his shoes i would definitely be using my skills as a surgeon Also i feel like he can find a balance in between the two
