Maybe by shooting the butterfly out of someones head it makes them weak, just like if you were help a Moth out of it’s cocoon.

Pretty sure they just want to live their life. In the end though, whether or not they have to be killed depends largely on whether they're taking over humans or using custom flesh puppets.

I think they are just trying to get home or are a victim of Waller/US Gov. Despite being an idiot, I do think Peacemaker has a good intuition and he did save the butterfly in the jar.

Maybe it isn't a butterfly that's inside of Murn. Maybe it's another race of small alien insects like moths or bees, and they are having a intergalactic war with the butterflies. That's why Murn is so intent on killing the butterfly’s.

Maybe the butterfly’s are man made. A bug specifically made by the government to control people (program made under Waller). & the ones on the kill list are rouge/ non functional. “Quick, clean up our mess”

I'm not sure about the butterflies, but I think Peacemaker's dad is a paper tiger. We haven't seen anything tough about him. He makes his kid kill people because he's too afraid to. He didn't fight Vigilante because he can't. He's living off of a reputation where people are afraid of him. I think he's all bark and no bite.

I think the butterflies have sought refuge on earth and other butterflies, like Murn, are hunting them down (like Autobots vs Decepticons or Green Martians vs White Martians)

Maybe the Butterflies are like the Protomolecule sent to earth to hijack human life for some other purpose. Whether the butterflies are working for themselves or for some higher masters I’m not sure yet.

this is my crazy theory: the butterflies are good and only inhabit the bodies of bad people cause they know their host dies (hence why they are in murn's body). the government via waller's job is to fight preceived evil hence why task force x (a group of villains) is off book. if all the bad people in the world are gone via the butterflies aka create utopia and peace, all their jobs are gone. what job does a war profitier have when there are no more wars?

Considering it looked concerned as well as eagly when peacemaker was having a breakdown I'd say there not that evil. Especially considering one of the team is a butterfly.
