Maybe it was a decision of the english subtitle writers to make a pun with the words bag and back. I do not know what it is called in japanese and what would be a word by word translation, but here in germany this technique was called 'Todesbuckel' which translates to 'death's hump' in english. That is a reference to a cat's arched back, because he is arching his back too when he prepares to attack. At least I hope 'hump' is the correct english word, I needed to look that one up in a dictionary and found multiple translations :D

Not true, surprisingly. I'm only on chapter 910 or so, but there has been one moment so far in the series where he has thought bubbles, that being in chapter 298, thinking of Cricket when he beats you-know-who.
