I think it’s better to complete hidden inventory arc season 2 episode 1 to 5 and then watching the jjk 0 movie. Then watching the rest of the season 2. That’s how I watched it and that betters adds the story of jjk sequentially.

One pretty unique thing about this show is the amount of time *that it 'skips' to get to the action/important moments. Normally in shonen, there is much more delay between them, which leads to a more cohesive sense of time so there is a trade off in Gege (the mangaka) is doing it here. Much like how Itadori was watching movies for multiple months, it was barely alluded to in the show at all, and that's one of the better times it shows something happening between major action arcs.

About the middle schoolers smoking, in Japan the middle school grades would be our grade 7-9. High school is grades 10-12. So these kids smoking could be the age of ninth graders, aka about 14-15. Still young, but more plausible!

Slight correction on the sorcerer grades: they can beat the same grade, not the one above. So, grade 2 sorcerers can beat grade 2 curses. The thing they were talking about in the other episode was about how the grades of sorcerers correspond to a slightly higher level of raw power than the grades of curses. So that grade 2 sorcerer from my example above would be more powerful than a grade 2 curse in general, and can therefore beat them. The same goes for the other numbers and special grade.

For the grading: Sorcerers are graded based on the level of cursed spirits they can defeat by themselves. A grade 2 sorcerer is expected to defeat grade 2 cursed spirits solo, so they are actually closer in strength to a grade 1 cursed spirit. A grade 1 sorcerer is closer to a special grade in strength. That's why Nanami (grade 1) is able to take on Mahito even if he can't defeat him.
