In the sbs(they actually cover this one), Oda confirms Chimney is 1/4 mermaid. She's the granddaughter of Kokoro(fishman) who married a regular human and had a half fishman, half human son

Nah, Oda confirmed that Kokoro was just Tom's secretary. She had a different human husband entirely who's not involved in the story who fathered Chimney. Besides, when a mermaid and a fishman produce children, the outcome is just either fully a mermaid or fully a fishman anyway.

If you re-watch at some point the casual way that Granny is chilling when Aqua Laguna is coming, the fact that she likes living out on a floating train station and how casual she is about being in danger near water really makes sense given that she, Chimney and Gombe are basically in dire danger all through this part of the arc but super chill about it

Zoro is a stoic man. This marks the 3rd time in the show he's cried. The first being Kuina's death, the second being his defeat at Mihawk's blade. Despite all the terrible and amazing things, Kokoro being a mermaid is what did him in.

Oda gave quite a few hints as too granny being a fishman. Oda likes to hide hints within important parts so we miss the hints. It really does make sense. Most fishmen marry within race considering racial tensions

Being with Tom who was a fishman is potentially a clue. She was also able to talk to Yakuzuna. Her grand kid was able to save Luffy from those insane waters when he was drawning. While Chimney isn't a full mermaid, she did get insane swimming ability. Also we did see a mermaid earlier in One Piece as a cover story in the manga but unfortunately that cover story didn't get animated.

The baby part made me laugh, the little punch was somehow precious in the face of a threat like Lucci ๐ I love the range of emotions that One Piece inspires, going from cuteness overload โHeโs just a baby!โ to smug cockiness โI love his voice when he gets seriousโ to then crying for the group that helped the Strawhats. Oda has been consistent in his treatment of side characters, making us feel for them as intensely as we feel for main characters, but I think it particularly starts to shine and solidify in this arc and the previous (Water 7), since it feels as though it has an Alabasta formula to it. Thank you for the reaction! I love how you two are thoroughly invested, and how you pay attention to the little details ๐
