To me this is one of the ultimate moments of FMAB. There are a lot of amazing moments in the series, but here (in the anime at least), Ed breaks the rules, he busts open the gate, toll and rules be damned for a brief moment in time, to prove that brotherhood...truly is an incredible bond.

Anime really outdid the manga with the final scene of this ep. In the manga, Ed tells Al's body that he'll come back for him as he's dragged into the door. Anime changed it to where he punches the door open AFTER it closed to tell him that. It made the scene sooooooo much more powerful. Ed literally overcame the Truth, the Universe, the God's power for a brief moment to promise his brother's body that he'll get him back. My top anime moments.

No joke, that last bit of this episode paired with the music is one of my top moments in any anime ever. Brotherhood indeed!

in case you haven't already filmed/watched it, episode 27 is filler - if you decide not to skip it, just know that none of what happens in 27 is canon so you don't need to let it confuse you when theorizing
