What gets me with this episode and the reveal about Sabo is that it takes me back to that scene in Alabasta when Luffy punched Vivi. Remember, she was trying to prevent any casualties and basing her plans around that and Luffy told her she needed to put the Strawhats' lives on the line too. But there was a specific thing Luffy said that sticks out like a sore thumb now. "People die" Luffy delivered that with none of his usual humor, but with just a cold stone certainty. It was said in a way that screamed he was speaking from experience, but we'd yet to see him go through anything that could give him that kind of perspective. Enter Sabo. It also makes Luffy's comments during Ennies Lobby have even more depth when Luffy said "I'm well aware of who Robin's enemies are" before ordering Usopp to shoot the World Government Flag. This experience with Sabo has helped shape Luffy's realist view on death and his opposition to the World Government and it puts so much extra depth into his quotes and actions earlier in the series with that context.

I love how this cements why Luffy is the way he is. He thanks Blueno on that rooftop for helping him become stronger so that he'll never have to lose any of his nakama because he's already lost so much, including his brother
