I love this episode because it’s a reminder that Luffy isn’t Superman. He’s not this unstoppable force… he’s a 17 year old kid. He’s a child. And he misses his brothers and his friends.

I've been watching the full reactions at this stage... and I like it much better. Binge watching back in the day it just all becomes a blur... There's just not enough attention paid to each episode because I was rushing. Watching along though like this I am liking it a lot better. You were going pretty fast so it took me a while to catch up. It should be great going forward!, I'll come along from here... 😊 Also there are 4 other reactors I'm watching at the same time... lol or more, some are ahead, some behind. Okay 2 are at the end, 2 behind and 2 in the middle... that's at least 6, I'm sure there are more if I count. I don't want to watch ahead of here... so I'll just watch behind episodes hahaha

I think that watching these episodes weekly didn't have the same emotional impact as binging through the story. So back in the day people probably had it easier going through these, having the time to emotionally regenerate themselves XD The "dragonfly" moment was crazy, that was filler though :D

Luffy is my absolute favorite fictional character of all time, and he is a huge comfort for me. Seeing my usually happy-go-lucky/sunshine character struggle like this over the past few arcs absolutely destroyed me as well!

there's a lot, and i mean A LOT of sad moments in one piece that can make you emotional, but to this day, the part where luffy remembers his crew is the most powerful one for me. its just so peak !

Nah, you're right. There will always be emotional moments within Oda's writing, but the end of this arc is the one that got me, and probably a few more adult men, blubbering. This is the point of the story that I realised that One Piece was now a part of me, as strange as that may sound. I was still catching up at this point, but when I eventually did catch up watching along every Sunday became a ritual - no matter if I was at home, at an airport, or on a beach.

That is what makes the show so great in my opinion. There are other great and beautiful emotional, sad or happy series out there, but the sheer scope and length of the series alone gives an emotional attachment to the characters which i havent found in any other series. Even if the pacing in the anime is sometimes horrendous, the emotion the voice actors put in their characters is somehing else. The story is one part but bringing the characters and their emotions to life in such a way it play the strings on your heart is one piece of its own. lol bad pun.

Dadan's rage at Garp is and will forever be one of my absolute favorite scenes of this series. She feels Luffy's pain. Just like we, the audience does. One of my all time favorite mothers in media in general.

I've watched through this arc like 3-4 times by now and it never fails to make me cry. Oda is just ruinously good at stirring up powerful, complicated emotions - nothing as simple as pure tragedy, but a total mix of negative and positive emotions that make both the highs and lows just that much more impactful. One Piece just hits different.
