The voice acting is so insanely talented in this show.

What's really interesting to me about this scene is that I didn't read it as a mistake necessarily. We hear about the story from Arnheid's perspective, who had to bear the horrible cost of the village being undefended in that moment. But it's also entirely possible that Gardar was correct that losing the iron might have meant a losing war anyway (we don't get to hear too many details). I think the truth of it is that a village with a weak fighting force is in a precarious position no matter what in this era in history, so people have to make the best decisions they can in an uncertain environment and hope (or pray) it works out. LIke the characters themselves, I don't feel like I can know what the "right" call is
