"I'm sorry, I'll never leave you alone again." Ironically, that's probably the most painful thing that Gardar could've said to Arnheid. I'm sure in her heart she had already given up on reclaiming the husband she had once loved, and she viewed the current Gardar as nothing more than a cornered and desperate beast. But that one statement relit a small spark of hope for her. Ultimately, having that small hope quickly and devastatingly snuffed out was likely more traumatic than living without that hope in the first place.
