There’s another early 80’s HBO action movie with Tangerine Dream I noticed on HBO Max the other day. Flashpoint with Kris Kristofferson, Treat Williams, Rip Torn, Kurtwood Smith and Jean Smart. Pretty fun, couple good/dumb lines, cool score, KK in great shape and I think it was a tight 90 minutes or close

While I was bartending in San Antonio I knew a lot of people who had run ins with TLJ. Dude showed up at a Thai restaurant and ordered fish. The waiter comes up to him and says "hello I really apologize but we are out of the grouper this evening. Is there something else I can get you?" He says, "why is it on the menu then?". The waiter explains and apologizes that they only have so many per day. TLJ gets up and leaves without saying a word. However, there is a chicken fried steak place here. The dude goes there more then once a month. I sat next to him at the counter once. He came in alone. He just looks like an old fella with a baseball cap on and saw that I ordered my Chicken fried steak with okra and macaroni. He says to me, "Nice choice". We chit chat a little bit but I didn't make a thing about it as I know he's a dick. Then he starts talking about his ranch and brightens up, orders us both a piece of pecan pie and continues rambling. If you ever meet him, just talk about ranching or football. He's a dick about everything else haha.

Odd choice for a Canadian movie… why would the country that was renowned for draft dodging make a Rambo ripoff? Canada didn’t have the same relationship to the Vietnam War and the conflict certainly wouldn’t carry the same cultural significance. Maybe first draft of script was something else/ had different premise but the studio changed things so it would be more commercial? Movie would have played better as free Québécois separatists taking over park in Toronto, would also be better justification for international mercenaries, as France had occupied Vietnam before US involvement…
