The saddest director passing that always sticks with me is the guy who directed a Wheel of Time pilot for TV. The pilot was made with a zilch budget and was a clear last-dash attempt to hold onto the rights in a use-it-or-lose-it situation. The guy supposedly shot the bulk of the dialogue scenes in a single day, and died in a car accident on the way home after wrapping. The pilot aired once, at like 2 AM on a Sunday on FXX.
