Obi wan should have been a fallstaff. You already had yoda and then invented qui gon jinn as very straight and classic mentors- so someone who wasn’t so straight and had a little more depth and complexity would have made things much better - granted Alec Guinness didn’t play him that way at all, but if in 1,2,3 Ewan played him more like a fallstaff , or just someone diff played him as more of a fallstaff altogether - then the killing of the all Jedi kids and everything going wrong would have made a legit arc and given reason for him being so dry. Also if there was dual nature to him would have made anakins transition a little more believable cuz there was another person that maybe he so more than just the dark side in.. also would have made new stupid obi wan on Disney watchable if you were watching someone liens. Fallstaff opposed to dry asss obi wan

So glad I finally watched this flick. What a masterpiece. Favourite moment is the look the jewellery store owner gives as he recognises Max during the robbery. An amazing small moment in a movie full of them. Five stars.

Speaking of smoking edict in the late 70s and early 80s, I remember people smoking all over the grocery store as a kid. Hell i remember going to my older brother’s parent teacher conferences and there was a guy smoking in the school with one leg of his jeans cuffed to form an ashtray

As much as I love it when The Boyz dig into schlock like Strike Commando, it's another level of excellence when they can really dissect a great movie like Straight Time. It's a real joy to hear them examine what makes this movie work and why it's so good. Their cinema analysis is genuinely wonderful and it's such a good, fun listen.

I highly recommend watching this but I recommend watching the first two separate as they edit them down significantly, and you miss a lot of that good Jon Alpert cinema verite quality from the edits.

Highly recommend “Life of Crime: 1984-2020”, a brutal look at several people caught up in the cycle of crime and drugs. On HBO Max and honestly one of the bleakest things I’ve ever seen. 5 stars.

Gotta say, I'm with Stanger on this one for M. Emmet Walsh's character motivations at the beginning of the film. I read his character as someone abusing their power to keep Dustin Hoffman dependent on him. Walsh is trying to always have one over on Dustin Hoffman so that he can ask Dustin Hoffman for favors. It's extremely manipulative and not in his best interest.
