Did anyone else know who Sonia Braga was during their childhood? I first saw her in Moon Over Parador, a 1988 movie that also starred Raul Julia. Ten-year-old me thought the premise looked really funny, so I got my mom to take me to it. I remember not understanding it. I also remember Sonia Braga from an episode of the Cosby Show where she played one of Theo’s teachers.

I met “the most interesting man” from the dos equis commercial years ago. He was often trolling for 20 year old girls in hollywood bars in the early 2000s. He had a kinda higher pitched jersey-type accent. Pretty basic type of guy but he was nice enough. He was definitely trying to squeeze as much juice out of his fleeting fame as possible. He would scan around and make eye contact with people and nod and smile just like in the commercial. His voice was very incongruous with his look and it made you feel immediately awkward…like the illusion was immediately shattered. Uncanny valley-esque.

In June 1991 for my 16th bday I got my first car, a 1989 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic. A month later I got my license the day T2 opened and picked up 3 friends and went to see it. One of the best days of my life. *also lost my V in the back folded down seats. I miss that car.

Raul Julia getting lots of love for his work in this film hopefully increase the chance of Tequila Sunrise getting covered on the pod. It is definitely more Thriller Boyz than Action Boyz. However, the combination of Gibson, Russell, Towne, Los Angeles beach lifestyle and Neo-Noir should make it very appealing. It’s funny how cyclical culture can be- I feel like I knew Cheech & Chong from a pretty young age thanks to That ‘70s Show (which premiered when I was 5). My mom explained Tommy Chong’s cultural significance to me at some point when we were watching it and it definitely brought him (and them) back into the zeitgeist generally.
