Buffy 5x15 I Was Made To Love You
🕑 Added 2024-05-31 21:00:04 +0000 UTCOkay, so, this was a fun romp. We had some interesting things happen, it was like a monster of the week type episode, some funny moments, a few heartfelt moments.
And then the ending happened. Which I really don't want to mention here and to be completely honest, I don't know what to say. I will say it's been burned into my mind since I've seen it and it's genuinely upsetting.
I hope you all take care and have a good weekend ๐ซ

Ooh I don't think mine are fancy like that! I just bought the first set I could find on ebay that wasn't too expensive. To be honest, after the timing issue I've not reached for them and have just been watching and re-watching on Disney ๐ฌ I know that many people hate the remastered version, so I realise I'm doing it incorrectly ๐ But I at least have the DVDs! That is something haha

Which Australian boxset do you have? I'm in Melbourne, I have the one that looks like a series of book sized boxes and the DVD's form a picture when they're put together. :)
Claire Eyles
I understand, I think each different DVD set has a slightly different timing on it which means it's really hard to sync up. I thought there might be a trick to it, but if not no worries I do have Disney on at the moment for The Acolyte series, so I can watch Buffy through that as well. :)

Hi Claire ๐ธ we were having a lot of trouble back in the beginning with the full reactions as I was watching them on a DVD set I got from Ebay (Australia) but they didn't match up with anyone else's copies. It was so frustrating that all the DVD sets seem to be at different speed! So I decided to just keep watching them via the remastered versions, which seem to be the same everywhere. I am currently watching the remastered version on Disney. I am sorry for any frustration! It was SO annoying to deal with it in the beginning and was causing me a lot of stress ๐
Claire Eyles
Just wondering what format you use for the video? I've tried several times to sync up my Buffy DVD's (I have a UK/Australian edition collector's boxset) and I cannot get them to sync with your video timing.

I also loved that talk at the end with April, but sadly everything else that happened is quickly forgotten with the end scene. At least for a first time watch ๐ I'm so pleased that Dawn is here and I never thought I'd say that... She went from being annoying random insert character to someone that I really DO feel has been there all along. SO weird, right?!
Jonathan Hall
I know you're excited but you know over hyping something usually has the opposite effect as intended right?
Oliver
I totally understand. This is why I also struggle with trigger warnings in theatres etc.. I understand how they are important to certain viewers but they also take away something of the dramaturgic effect.

*Hugs* we all knew this ending would hit hard. But we're not talking about that yet. I'm impressed you thought she was a robot before they said it! The ending overshadows the episode, which really could stand on its own quite well. The actress playing April does a great job. That scene where she's winding down is well done. Tara are on the same wavelength. "Everyone's spelling is really bad, it's depressing." The Summers family dynamic is very good in this episode. Especially Joyce and Buffy, but the moments with Dawn are good too.

Yes ๐๐ they ARE our friends!! It really does feel like that. I'm 43 and feel no shame in saying that ๐ my goodness, I adore them!
Juliette Gaming
Unspoiled for me is way better, even if it's so awful and horrible like this. I want to try to experience it how it was intended to be and I reckon I've been super lucky so far ๐
Dyrla
Yes it's only a TV show but at the same time it is a little bit more than that. We've grown up with these people over the last five years and they've become our friends too and we feel what they feel.
Oliver
That is an interesting reply. I also wanted to ask you, Juliette, if - in this particular instance - you would have preferred to be warned or do you still prefer that the shock came the unspoiled way. I do think that the unspoiled way is "better", because it is the same way that Buffy experiences it and it is part of the journey but I also understand the other preference. Just wondering how you think about it.
Ryan Martinez
I won't spoil anything for you but I will tell you my reaction to that final scene. I was so happy to see Joyce getting flowers, but then they adjusted the shot. My first reaction was a straight up "No." That's all I'll say.
Juliette Gaming
Hard and raw and real is a beautiful way to describe it ๐
Juliette Gaming
It was so rough, honestly.... I didn't know anything about it, had no idea, nothing spoiled. I'm glad to go into it not knowing what was coming but what a punch to the guts it was. I'll never forget the ending of that episode ๐
Juliette Gaming
Oh thank goodness. I tried so hard to talk about other stuff but it all just felt meaningless. Who cares what I think about Giles, or the robot, or anything? What about Joyce ๐ญ๐ญ
Juliette Gaming
๐ซ๐ซ it was truly awful. I know it's "just a TV show" but at the same time, it's not... ๐ญ
Juliette Gaming
I'm actually so full of love for everyone here that I reckon wanted to reach out and warn me, just out of kindness, but you all held back even though that would have been hard, as you all know I don't want spoilers - however tough it might be to deal with without them. You guys are all amazing ๐ There was SO much to say about this episode, but I just couldn't even get it together without my words feeling so.... empty. it all just felt so meaningless after what we saw at the end. SIGH. And yes, honestly, I think I'm happy to leave this episode finished at the moment you mentioned! That's where it stops from now on ๐๐
Juliette Gaming
Oh no way, that is such a shame... I hate that for you!
Juliette Gaming
I truly had no idea. It was SUCH a huge shock ๐
Juliette Gaming
Joss, as much as he hurts us over and over, really is a master at storytelling. He's incredibly talented, yet I can't help but be angry at him at the same time ๐
Aussie Mat
The end of this episode is so hard and raw and real. The next episode is one of the best single episodes of TV that have ever been made.
Michael Short
I too remember those days. lol
Michael Short
My heart breaks seeing your reaction at the end. I don't want to say anything to risk spoiling it. I hope despite this the rest of your day / week goes well. hugs
Britney
It's been so long ago now, but I still remember watching this episode as it aired and being absolutely stunned by that ending. You're not the only reactor to not be able to properly discuss the episode after seeing that ending. I think most of us have come to expect that at this point.
Dyrla
Sending hugs...we've all gone through the shock of the last scene and it never gets easier.
JenM
I wanted to warn you to wait until after the weekend to watch this episode so it wouldnโt ruin your weekend, but I realizeโฆspoilers. This episode is actually quite a good episode with a lot of interesting things to say I think. Unfortunately we all get hit by that sucker punch to the gut in the last minute the first time we watch. Since youโre rewatching the series I think youโll get the chance to appreciate it more the second time around. Just do what I do and hit stop before Buffy walks in the door ๐ข. Hugs, Juliette. โค๏ธ

As the resident Old Fogey :-) I am someone who is old enough to remember a time before the onset of the modern spoilerphobia culture... I actually had the ending of this episode "spoiled" for me. The day before this aired, TV Guide hit the newsstands with the listings for the following week's programming. I don't think it qualifies as a spoiler to say there's no way to do even a one or two sentence promoting the next episode without revealing the ending of this one. So I was braced for it. And with every reactor I see, I grow more and more grateful that I was.
Stephen Knueppel
I don't know what to say except the shock at the end of this episode is always so raw
Oliver
Joss Whedon always pushed the boundaries of the genre and sometimes he breaks it. One reason why I respected and started watching Buffy is the next episode but it can be very hard to watch especially when being attached to the characters and responding so emotionally like you do. Take care.
