And tada! In case I haven't mentioned it before, Kiri is intersex! Both Zizumbir and the Northern part of the Empire only sort people into two genders but moving between is not unheard of. The Southern portion of the empire that Razendi's family controls recognizes three genders and is very accepting of "unhalved" people but they will often have trouble recognizing a transgender person as anything but third gender. Pretty much everyone in the empire but those in the far-North are culturally influenced by the South and liberal Palladesia so they will use they/them pronouns for those who specify and refer to people by their job titles instead of miss or sir. Example: Jintu will call Kiri "Assistant Kiri" the same way he will call Tashti "Miss Tazilka."

Hahaha as a seamstress, I want to know why the dress wasn't altered first so that wouldn't have happened, but as a fangirl, the flex-rip was very satisfying. I really love all the lore about gender, thank you for that. It's so strange and exciting to watch Kizarasunga's growth parallel mine. I loved the original version of her so much at the time, re-reading it really highlighted how much she's changed in the re-do, in a way that I've also changed. The old TQ is what I needed then, and the current TQ is what I need now. We even get to question gender together. I can't tell you how much this series means to me, so thank you for this!

That's kind of the point. They're trying to hide that she's injured, they tried the sleeves and it didn't work, now they're trying something sleeveless while trying to disguise the bandages.
