Honestly letting themselves get beat up might be a man logic thing because I still don't really understand why Luffy did that. I get it was supposed to be a parallel with Shanks, but those situation weren't completely 1-1. Shanks said he would fight to protect his friends, but Luffy asked Zoro to take the beating with him and Nami could have been in harm's way too. If it's about not fighting meaningless battles, it still doesn't fully makes sense. My man was about to brawl over pies not 5 minutes before. But when a guy humiliates your navigator and makes fun of your dreams, that's not a good reason? Why the hell not? :o But then, it's Luffy logic so in that way, it makes perfect sense that it doesn't make sense...
