Well by definition of filler, the entire show is. 71 and 72, are most certainly not COMPLETELY necessary to watch, to understand later events, however.

There are five supreme Kais, with four of them controlling a particular quadrant of the universe; north, south, east, and west. The fifth one being called the Grand Supreme Kai is the one that is supervising them. Same much for king kai and the other kais that are controlling one for each quadrant of the galaxy. In Z, the reason why there is only 1 supreme kai is because Bibidi, the father of Babidi, and Kid Buu killed off the other four. The one supreme kai we know of right know is from the east quadrant.

So for what whis is saying that he has something greater than the evil containment wave and I know you skipped the battle of gods arc in this show. During the arc, elder kai explained about how he got sealed in a sword for millions of years. Him and Beerus had a meeting in which made beerus mad so because of beerus and the kais being part as a pact together, instead of destroying him, he decided to seal him off

68-76 are all fillers but honestly they're all pretty entertaining in their own right, so I don't think it'd be a crime to see them through.

The ending of this arc is hated pretty much by everyone and even completely ruins it for some people. I think it's extremely overhated and doesn't take anything away from the greatness of this arc. The next arc is probably my favorite arc in all of Dragon Ball and maybe even in all of anime, especially the last 30 episodes or so when it really starts

seeing Gohan cheer Trunks up made me tear up a bit, but I don't know if you noticed that Gohan was training with Picollo, he was in his Ultimate/Mystic Form when he showed up at the end
