Another dev cycle is finished and we’re ready to update you on the developing progress for Innocent Witches. We’ll take a brief look at what’s been done since the previous update, and then talk about some game-related topics. Let’s start!
Beginning, as always, with an art-preview. This time it’s one of the new iconic locations that will be added in 0.11A - the Great Hall!
Initially it will be used as a part of the main quest, but later we will add it as a free-to-visit location which will allow you to visit it for future side quests or just to enjoy the interior :)
Next, the tasks that we were working on during these past 10 days:
Daphne’s Live2D scene that is available in Act 1 Chapter 6 has been finalized and implemented into the game.
It will first be added to 0.11A, and later in the update that follows (0.11B) it will be integrated into the public version (0.10B).
Elf-maid scene has received Live2D animations as well. They are now implemented and awaiting final corrections from the animator.
The animations will be added the same way as Daphne’s animations, first in 0.11A and then in 0.10B.
Prepared first part of the text for 0.11A for insertion. The texts were transformed into the format that can be used in the game. At the same time they are being edited, and once it’s finished the edited lines will be placed into the game via a script, replacing the ones that are already there. This way we can start inserting the texts into code while they are edited, which saves time.
The second part of the text is expected to be finished within a couple of days. Once it’s done it will undergo the same procedure as the first part.
Now let’s look at our current plans.
The main goal at the moment is to put all the time into the upcoming update. The bulk of the work will be aimed at adjusting the code and existing events to the updated story. The main challenge here is to incorporate the new story where the waifu returns at the end of the chapter, and at the same time integrate as many existing events as possible. Since the existing chapter’s structure is based on the events aimed at looking for waifu, it won’t be possible to just replace the dialogues and add a happy end to the chapter.
Instead, the current plan is to create a separate chapter with the new story with the new and existing events on top. This way we will avoid making the existing code for the chapter overcomplicated and bloated, which usually results in obscure game-breaking bugs. This also means that the existing chapter can be conserved and replayed in its original state for those players interested, similar to how old and new plots work at the moment.
The other thing to keep in mind is that the second chapter in act 2 is also about looking for missing waifu. That means that without adjustments the transition between new chapter 1 (where the waifu is back) and existing chapter 2 (where the waifu is missing at the moment) won’t make much sense.
Therefore, when version 0.11A will be out we’ll have the following structure for the game’s chapters. Currently existing chapters in Act 2, together with old plot, will be moved to a separate section called “Extra”. The new plot will also be moved to its own section - “Main story”. So whenever you press the “New game” or “Select chapter” buttons, you will be presented with the two choices described above. This way we can clearly separate the plot that we are working on currently and which will be developed further, and all other chapters.
But why do this at all you might ask? Would be easier to just have the new plot by default and be done with it. The reason of course is that we still have content that needs to be ported into the new story, such as scenes with the prefects, minigames and other juicy events. All of them are waiting to be integrated in one or another way, and until it’s done they will remain as a part of the “Extra” content available for the players to enjoy at any time.
To summarize, the work is at full speed, with the art being drawn and the code being written. As it was mentioned in the previous news post, starting from 1st of December we will switch all the development time to the meat of 0.11A. As for the dates, we’re still aiming for the end of December / early January. The release date will mostly depend on the amount of potential adjustments and changes that we might come up with during the implementation of the events, since this kind of thing often happens even when concrete plans are set. These adjustments might include additions to art, changes in the flow of the events and so on. Plus, the holidays are coming, and most members of the team will want to spend some time with their relatives, which might have an effect on their productivity. Anyhow, we want to deliver the best for you to enjoy so keep an eye on the news for future updates regarding the upcoming release :) We really hope you’ll like it ;)
Let’s wrap this up with a round of voting. One of the features that you might’ve encountered in adventure / VN games is the ability to set a name for a character. The idea here is to, for example, have some fun by using the names of people you know, or to use your own name for better immersion, among other things. Our game has fixed names for all the characters since that was the original plan from the start. However, in 0.11A it will be possible to give a name to one of the side characters, you might probably already guess who that might be :) However, we would like to know your opinion on this feature in general as we might use it in future for other characters as well. Is it important for you to be able to give names for characters in the games you play? Or is it something that you don’t pay attention to at all and just stick with the default names? I think it’s cool to be able to name the characters in adventure / VN games. Would love to have it in Innocent Witches.
It’s kinda meh, to be honest. I might occasionally give a name, but it’s nothing important for me.
I usually skip this part and either use the default names, or just quickly type in something just to go through.
I don’t care / I want to see the results.

Очередной цикл разработки завершен, и мы готовы рассказать вам о ходе разработки Невинных Ведьм. Мы вкратце расскажем о том, что было сделано с момента предыдущего обновления, а затем поговорим на некоторые темы, связанные с игрой. Давайте начнем!
А начнем, как всегда, с арт-превью. На этот раз это одна из новых знаковых локаций, которая будет добавлена в 0.11A - Большой зал Хогвартса!
Изначально он будет использоваться как часть основного квеста, но позже мы добавим его как локацию для свободного посещения, что позволит вам ходить туда в будущих побочных квестах или просто наслаждаться интерьером :)
Далее - задания, над которыми мы работали в течение последних 10 дней:
Live2D-сцена Дафны, которая доступна в 6 главе 1 акта, была доделана и внедрена в игру.
Сначала она будет добавлена в 0.11A, а затем после выхода следующего обновления (0.11B) будет интегрирована в публичную версию (0.10B).
Сцена с эльфийской горничной также получила Live2D-анимации. Они уже вставлены в игру и ожидают финальных правок от аниматора.
Анимации будут добавлены так же, как и анимации Дафны, сначала в 0.11A, а затем в 0.10B.
Подготовлена к вставке первая часть текста для 0.11A. Тексты были преобразованы в формат, который можно использовать в игре. В то же время они редактируются, и как только это будет закончено, отредактированные строки будут помещены в игру через скрипт, заменяя те, что уже есть. Таким образом, мы можем начать вставлять тексты в код, пока они редактируются, что экономит время.
Вторая часть текста будет готова в течение нескольких дней. Когда она будет готова, с ней будет проделана та же процедура, что и с первой частью.
Теперь давайте посмотрим на наши текущие планы.
Главная цель на данный момент - вложить все время в грядущее обновление. Основная часть работы будет направлена на адаптацию кода и существующих событий к обновленному сюжету. Основная задача - ввести новый сюжет, в котором вайфу возвращается в конце главы, и в то же время интегрировать как можно больше существующих событий. Поскольку структура существующей главы основана на событиях, направленных на поиск вайфу, просто заменить диалоги и добавить хэппи энд в главу не получится.
Вместо этого мы планируем создать отдельную главу с новой историей вместе с новыми и существующими событиями. Таким образом, мы избежим переусложнения и раздувания существующего кода главы, что обычно приводит к ошибкам в коде, ломающим игру. Это также означает, что существующая глава будет сохранена и доступна в первоначальном виде для тех игроков, которым это интересно, подобно тому, как сейчас работают старый и новый сюжеты.
Не стоит забывать и о том, что вторая глава второго акта также посвящена поиску пропавшей вайфу. Это означает, что без корректировок переход между новой главой 1 (где вайфу возвращается) и существующей главой 2 (где вайфу в данный момент отсутствует) не будет иметь особого смысла.
Поэтому, когда выйдет версия 0.11A, у нас будет следующая структура глав игры. Существующие на данный момент главы второго акта вместе со старым сюжетом будут перенесены в отдельный раздел под названием "Экстра". Новый сюжет также будет перемещен в свой собственный раздел - "Главный сюжет". Следовательно, при нажатии кнопок "Новая игра" или "Выбрать главу" вам будут предложены два варианта, описанные выше. Таким образом, мы сможем четко разделить сюжет, над которым мы работаем в данный момент и который будет развиваться дальше, и все остальные главы.
Но зачем вообще это делать, спросите вы? Проще было бы просто оставить новый сюжет по умолчанию и все. Причина, конечно, в том, что у нас еще есть контент, который необходимо перенести в новый сюжет, например, сцены о старостами, мини-игры и другие вкусные события. Все они ждут, чтобы их интегрировали тем или иным способом, и пока это не будет сделано, они останутся частью "Экстра" контента, которым в любое время смогут насладиться игроки.
Подводя итог, можно сказать, что работа идет полным ходом: арты - рисуются, код - пишется. Как уже было сказано в предыдущем сообщении, с 1 декабря мы переключим все время разработки на 0.11A. Что касается сроков, то мы по-прежнему нацелены на конец декабря / начало января. Дата релиза будет в основном зависеть от количества потенциальных корректировок и изменений, которые мы можем сделать в процессе ввода событий, поскольку такое часто случается даже при наличии конкретных планов. Эти корректировки могут включать в себя добавление артов, изменение хода событий и так далее. Кроме того, приближаются праздники, и большинство членов команды захотят провести время со своими близкими, что может сказаться на их продуктивности. Как бы то ни было, мы хотим предоставить вам лучшее, чем вы могли бы наслаждаться, поэтому следите за новостями о предстоящем релизе :) Мы очень надеемся, что вам понравится ;)
Давайте завершим голосование. Одна из функций, которую вы могли встретить в приключенческих / VN играх, - это возможность задать имя персонажу. Смысл заключается в том, чтобы, например, пошутить, используя имена знакомых людей, или использовать собственное имя для лучшего погружения в игру, помимо всего прочего. В нашей игре у всех персонажей фиксированные имена, так как так было задумано с самого начала. Однако в 0.11A появится возможность дать имя одному из побочных персонажей, и вы, вероятно, уже догадываетесь, кто это может быть :) Однако мы хотели бы узнать ваше мнение об этой возможности в целом, поскольку в будущем мы можем использовать ее и для других персонажей. Важно ли для вас иметь возможность давать имена персонажам в играх, в которые вы играете? Или вы вообще не обращаете на это внимания и просто придерживаетесь имен по умолчанию? По-моему это классно. Хотелось бы, чтобы это было и в Невинных Ведьмах.
Честно говоря, так себе. Иногда я могу дать имя, но это не имеет для меня особого значения.
Обычно я пропускаю эту часть и либо оставляю имя как есть, либо быстро ввожу что-нибудь и иду дальше.
Мне все равно / Я хочу увидеть результаты.

Yeah maybe if you could rename the main character, all the rest I'd rather keep their names to keep with the lore.

For some games I'd love to give them names, like for an original story. But for others I'd love the original name, especially if it's a spinoff/fan based/parody like this game, because the immersion is about how would you image some spesific characters if doing this or that, not for other characters.

On naming characters... I quite like it when you can give the main character your own name. But that works best when you can also customise their appearance and when you have more control over the way they act and behave, which would involve a lot of work in this case. Best to focus on getting the main story completed first imho. Thanks for the update anyhow and all the best.

I would really like Susan’s “this or that” mini game added to extras and new plot. It took place in your office. 3 covered plates they would move around - two plates had spoiled food one plate a dessert. Every correct plate revealing a dessert got Susan more topless until she finally played with her boobs. Definitely the best mini game!
