February has flown by, along with another eight days of development. It’s time to share what we’ve been working on during this period and how the development of the upcoming releases of Innocent Witches is progressing.
The past eight days were almost entirely dedicated to working on version 0.12A. The second chapter of the second act is now fully integrated into the game in terms of text and code, and the remaining artwork is being added as it’s being completed.
The texts for the third chapter, in turn, are expected to be finished this week, by March 2. After that, they will immediately move on to translation and editing. Since the artwork for both chapters was created in parallel, most of it is already finished and will be actively inserted into the game as the text is integrated into the code.
Another task that our writers are currently working on is creating a small event featuring Luna. Since she won the (relatively) recent "Miss Hogwarts" contest, we decided to treat her fans with a special event. This will be a short but enjoyable story that will allow fans of the mysterious Miss Lovegood to appreciate her remarkable virtues.
Throughout the past month, we have also been collecting feedback and evaluating the performance of some in-game mechanics. In particular, we analyzed the mechanics of earning and spending the in-game currency, Galleons, as well as the stat progression and usage system.
In addition to our internal analysis, we also relied heavily on the results of the last two polls. Here’s what we gathered from the feedback:
As a result, when updating these mechanics, we will focus on your votes and opinions. You made it clear that you want more interactive mechanics, as well as more active use in the storyline and game events. We will also strive to balance them properly to make the gameplay more engaging and enjoyable. This is planned to be worked on as we finish and release the version 0.12A. We are also actively discussing ways to change and improve the development process for future game releases. The current release, which has already been in development for a long time, has shown that due to a combination of various factors, including changes in the writing team, we need to fundamentally reassess key aspects of development.
At the moment, the biggest factor slowing down progress is the massive volume of text, accompanying numerous events in the second and third chapters. This time, we clearly overestimated our capacity and took on too much work, which has led to repeated annoying delays for the release of 0.12A. Within the team, this situation is already being seen as something beyond reasonable limits.
For context: the text volume for the second chapter in Google Docs is 250 pages, while the third chapter is already approaching 200 pages and is likely to reach around 210 pages by the time it’s finished.
On the one hand, this amount of text can be seen as a positive thing: the dialogues are filled with various choices that impact future events, and they are accompanied by new scenes, animations, and artwork, making the release immersive and engaging.
On the other hand, working with such a massive amount of content takes an incredible amount of time, especially considering that most of the team balances game development with their primary jobs. This has made us reconsider our approach to content creation, so that future releases can be completed more efficiently while maintaining the quality.
To avoid situations with overly lengthy chapters in the future, we plan to reduce the amount of text and actions, shifting the focus toward character interactions rather than overcomplicated storytelling. Our main goal is to create compact yet engaging events, where the spotlight will be on prefects and other beloved characters.
At the same time, the quality of storytelling will remain high due to well-though and exciting events. A great example of this approach is the Unforgettable Night event from the old storyline, where interactivity, plot, and rewards involving multiple characters are well balanced. Another good reference is Ginny’s introductory quest.
Moving forward, we will aim for this format, which will allow us to shorten the development time for new releases without compromising content quality.

Февраль уже позади, а вместе с ним и восемь дней разработки. Самое время рассказать, над чем мы работали в этот период и как продвигается разработка предстоящих релизов "Невинных ведьм".
Прошедшие восемь дней разработки были почти полностью посвящены работе над версией 0.12А. Вторая глава второго акта уже полностью интегрирована в игру с точки зрения текста и кода, а оставшийся арт будет добавляться по мере его готовности.
Тексты для третьей главы, в свою очередь, планируются к завершению уже на этой неделе, до 2 марта. После этого они сразу же перейдут на этап перевода и редактуры. Поскольку арт для обеих глав создавался параллельно, большая его часть уже готова, и он будет активно вставляться в игру по мере интеграции текста в код.
Еще одной задачей, над которой сейчас работают сценаристы, стало создание небольшого события с участием Полумны. Поскольку она стала победительницей (относительно) недавнего конкурса "Мисс Хогвартс", мы решили порадовать её поклонников дополнительным сочным контентом. Это будет небольшое, но приятное событие, которое позволит фанатам загадочной Мисс Лавгуд насладиться её неоспоримыми прелестями.
Дополнительно, на протяжении прошлого месяца мы собирали отзывы и оценивали работу некоторых внутриигровых механик. В частности, были проанализированы механики заработка и расходования галлеонов, а также система прокачки характеристик и их применения.
Помимо нашего анализа, мы во многом ориентировались на результаты двух последних голосований, проведенных среди игроков. Вот какие выводы можно сделать по их итогам:
В результате, при обновлении этих механик мы будем ориентироваться на ваши голоса и мнения. Вы дали понять, что хотите видеть более интерактивные механики, а также их активное применение в сюжете и игровых событиях. А ещё сейчас активно обсуждаем, каким образом стоит изменить и улучшить процесс работы над будущими релизами игры. Текущий релиз, над которым работа ведётся уже слишком долгое время, ясно показал, что из-за сочетания различных факторов, включая перестановки в команде сценаристов и писателей, нам необходимо кардинально пересмотреть ключевые аспекты разработки.
На данный момент главным фактором, замедляющим процесс, является огромный объём текста, сопровождающий множество действий во второй и третьей главах. В этот раз мы явно переоценили свои возможности и взяли на себя слишком большой объём работы, что вынуждает нас снова и снова откладывать выход 0.12A. Внутри команды это уже воспринимается как ситуация, выходящая за рамки разумного.
Для наглядности: текстовый объем второй главы в формате Google Docs составляет 250 страниц, а для третьей главы он уже приближается к 200 страницам и, вероятно, достигнет около 210 страниц к моменту завершения работы.
С одной стороны, такое количество текста можно считать положительным: диалоги наполнены различными выборочными репликами, влияющими на дальнейшие события, а также сопровождаются новыми сценами, анимациями и прочим артом, что делает релиз более насыщенным и глубоким.
С другой стороны, работа над таким масштабом контента требует огромного количества времени, особенно учитывая, что большинство команды совмещает разработку игры с основной работой. Это заставляет нас задуматься о необходимости оптимизации подхода к созданию контента, чтобы последующие релизы выходили более оперативно, сохраняя при этом высокий уровень качества.
Чтобы избежать в будущем ситуации с чрезмерно объемными главами, мы планируем сокращать количество текста и действий, делая больший акцент на взаимодействии с персонажами, а не на усложнении сюжета. Основная цель — создание более компактных событий, в которых будут активно использоваться сцены со старостами и другими персонажами, которых мы все так любим.
При этом качество повествования останется на высоком уровне за счёт проработанных и интересных событий. Отличным примером такого подхода является квест "Незабываемая ночка" из старого сюжета, где интерактивность, сюжет и награды с участием нескольких персонажей хорошо сбалансированы. Также в качестве ориентира можно привести квест, связанный с первым знакомством с Джинни.
В дальнейшем мы будем стремиться к такому же формату, что позволит сократить сроки работы над новыми релизами, сохраняя при этом насыщенность и качество контента.

One of the things I have appreciated about your game is the detailed and interesting story-telling, so I certainly wouldn't vote to reduce that. Having played through the Old and New stories up to the current, it does get a little frustrating that there was so much more intimate content in the old story, and the new one seems like it should be just about there, but each new update just seems to keep pushing that off a little further. So I voted for option #2 with the deep story-telling, but had to clarify here that there do need to be some significant progress points made in how intimate MC gets with the girls in order to maintain the strong interest in the story.

Thank you for an in-depth update! I think your analysis of the feedback and the talks within the team are on the right track. If IW was a traditional game in the sense of it being sold as a finished unit, lots of text and storytelling would have been great, IMO. However, since it's released bit by bit, the player gets to read the same stuff over and over (which in my case leads to lots of skipping these days). I loved reading when I began playing in 2019 though, so looking forward to a more streamlined process for you guys and a finished game ❤️🫡
