Frieren really is more like a mother figure for Fern than anything else. You'll see it in little things Fern does that are traits and habits she picked up from Frieren while they trained together. A thing i've also noticed on this rewatch through with Jack is that Frieren while usually very muted in her emotional displays. Struggling to even have a visible smile. But when remembering Himmel she cannot help but smile. Even having the biggest grin when she cleaned his statue.

The ending of ep 1 was 20 years after the death of Himmel Frieren first spent 4 years with Heiter, teaching Fern. Then, another 2 years passed between Heiter’s death and their search for the flower, leaving us 26 years after the death of Himmel Someone correct me if I’m wrong, I did not keep track of the timeline the first time I watched this :p

Literally, for perspective more time passed in this episode than has passed throughout the entirety of One Piece. Totally catches you off guard but makes sense from the perspective of Frieren being this effectively timeless character trying to slow down and experience the world around her a bit more.

one of the few shoes I've watched where time passes so nonchalantly , frieren trained fern for 4 years just for a favour and then spends 6 months looking for 1 flower just because she wants to, but both take up the same amount of time in the episode. always catches me off guard since most shows make it a huge deal when time passes or it doest really pass in a noticeable/impactful way
