It’s why it’s extremely minor just saying they go over it next episode. The rest is already known. SAD being used to produce Smile. Sad was on punk hazard which ticked off dofla who was using it to produce smile. We know jokers name and we know that Kaido wants it to help his army of gifters. The only thing we don’t know at this point is why Ebisu residents are always laughing. But that was partially covered in this episode in the last line where hiyori was saying the residents couldn’t physically do anything but laugh because of smile.

I love re-watching this with you bc the way Ashura completely forgot he was mad at his friends and was talking to them as if no time had passed at all got me a little emotional

Yeah, it hits even harder next episode (it's very likely he's already watched the next episode). The fruit is called a smile fruit because the people who eat it will likely only smile from then on. It's even more devastating to think that on top of that a person going by the name Joker was making Smile fruits from the SAD gas. it all comes around from that very first part in Punk Hazard. A SAD gas makes Smile fruits to entertain Kaido (and Orochi). When you watch the next episode, it will all start to make sense. Good luck

these episodes man. They hurt so much. Knowing that they really can't utter their pain in any way other than laughing. The murder of otoko's father right in front of her and the whole realization of how important he was. Then comes the realization that he heard they were struggling and didn't hessitate one bit to sacrifice himself to save the plan. This is such peak writing. It hurts so much.
