Math is a Nightmare
🕑 Added 2020-07-19 01:11:52 +0000 UTCI'm exhausted. Xan is moving out of state and I was helping him, and it has thrown off my schedule. Really, family being in town this week and my nephew coming home from the hospital threw me off. Lots of driving and family time. So when I took a nap yesterday, I wasn't expecting the nightmare that haunted me.
I lucid dream every night. Most of the time, I have fun ninja magic dreams. Siphon started as a dream. This story however... was horrific. I woke up shaking, and I didn't stop for hours. I couldn't calm down until I posted a short summary of the dream on Facebook. That wasn't enough though. It haunted me, and last night I could barely sleep. The dream, or rather nightmare, lived on.
So today I wrote this short story. I have no idea if it's any good, I have no idea if I'll ever use it for anything. But if you like horror stories, eh, give it a try. If you're not a horror fan, maybe pass. I'm not a horror fan. I just needed to write the ending and overcome this for my own sanity.
As for other news, I actually do have most of the next chapter written, but it got derailed by family and then this nightmare. Hopefully I'll finish it in the next day or so.

It was an interesting read, definitely some "artifacts" that make it clear it was originally a dream. I'm not sure if I would personally classify it as "horror", maybe just "light horror", "horror" to me usually leaves more of an element of helplessness (obviously not what you want with the reasons you wrote it). If the main character didn't have any of her powers and instead was forced to fight as a normal human would I would definitely classify it fully as horror (whether she won or lost) . It gave me some Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Percy Jackson vibes, and I could definitely see the beginnings of a world in there. I think this could work great especially if you leaned more into the darker elements though as you admitted you aren't really a horror fan so probably not something you'd be too interested in doing.
