The chances of anything coming from Mars...

I still remember the thrill of hearing the album when I was a kid, and coming back to it again, and to the book, to create this tribute comic, was so satisfying.
My plan was to tell a story that didn’t take anything away from the book, but added something new to it (and not, god forbid, do a Prometheus, and undermine so much of what was cool about the original). I don’t know if I succeeded but it was hella fun trying. I've included my longer original script in the slideshow, for those of you interested.
Anyway, until next time, here's to life, wherever it calls home.

Listened to it while I was drawing some of the panels! Perfection.

I could hear the Jeff Wayne album in my head as soon as I read the title of this post. Loved it.

Thanks dude! I really want to make these stories longer sometimes. It’s hard editing them down so much!!

That short story is by one of my all time favourite authors- Peter Watts. I freaking loved it!!

Glad you noticed that!

I really enjoyed how many Scott Base pre-occupations fitted so neatly in with a strict adherence to HG Wells. I loved the all conquering microbes, complete with 'tentacles', in particular.

i always appreciate these sort of flipped-perspective stories-- there was one on Tor or a similar site, years ago, from the titular Thing's perspective that did a memorable job of flipping the early 80s film-- and they're often like a musician riffing on a jazz standard; if you know the particular flavors of that musician, you can hear (in this case, see) and enjoy their mark on a story you already know. all of which is to say: nicely done!
