Bad Space - BOOKED
🕑 Added 2025-01-06 21:01:18 +0000 UTCIn some great news to kick off 2025 - Bad Space is going to print this year!
I can’t say too much more yet, but we finally have a publisher I like, and it looks like we will have it on the shelves mid this year.
To keep the length manageable, it’s likely we will need to cull a few stories, so do let me know if there’s any of my comics you absolutely must see in the comments below, and I will do my best to make sure they make the grade.
Meanwhile my latest comic is well underway, and will feature exclusive Patreon-only panels. That extra length has slowed me down a little, but I think it’ll be worth the wait.
Hope your New Year is looking hopeful, Spacers. Talk soon

Alli Rosen
I'm so excited about the book! I'm hoping to invite my Book Club read it with me next year!
Maja
ah, yes that’s my FAVOURITE :))
Scott Base
Thanks Len! Im stoked! Just talked to the publisher yesterday and he’s working on it full time from March.
Len Forgione
Love your work - just subscribed and can’t wait to see it in print!
Scott Base
Thanks Jersha! Yeah, I really took my own sweet time getting around to this, didn’t I? 🤣 Super stoked with the publisher though, so Im really glad I found a good match.
Jersha Grace
Finally!! Congratulations!!
Scott Base
Awesome! Im working on a Patreon only comic today actually - And a longer form comic that I’m thinking of sharing on here as i start drawing it too. So more good stuff on the way! 😁
Aaron Brown
Thank you! Super excited to have subbed. Really enjoying looking through the backlog of content I didn’t get to consume on Instagram.
Scott Base
Oh hey, you made it, Aaron! Thank you for your support. Yeah, really pleased this is finally happening. And it looks like the publisher may move quite fast too!
Aaron Brown
This is incredible! Really looking forward to being able to share this with friends in a physical format.
Crystle Swinford
TWO BOOKS?!?!? YES, PLEASE!
Scott Base
The publisher just mentioned that they want to do signed copies to me - so it looks like that’s a Yes! 😁
Jason DeCou
Oh and definitely include Inhospitable, it's one of my favorites.
Jason DeCou
Congratulations! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Any hope of getting a signed copy when it goes to print?
Scott Base
Hell and Back - yes! 😁😁🙏
Scott Base
I’m so glad you like Excision! It’s a personal favourite of mine, but a lot of people didn’t get it, so I wasn’t sure if I should include it or not.
Scott Base
Aww thank you Crystle! I just talked to the publisher today, and it looks like we will be able to print all those comics - although we might have to split it into two books so we can fit them all! Not certain, but it’s a possible way of dealing with having quite a large collection to draw from 😬
Crystle Swinford
"Twins" and "Komarov's Fall" are two of the ones that've brought me back to read and reread. "Excision" reminds me of Ray Bradbury's "Zero Hour" so it's also another favorite. I am SO excited for a book!!!! I'm crossing my fingers for wall prints to happen as well one day. I've got your Christmas gift of "The Suit" framed and hanging in my office, but I'd LOVE to have more. Please pop the pre-order link up as soon as it's available!!!
low_effort_music
Fantastic news! All my favorites have already been mentioned in the comments, so I am just sharing my excitement for the printed book.
Amit Ungar
🤞🏻🤞🏻😄 Ooh, there's also the story about that space explorer who gets some sample and wnd then gets decapitated, her head sent back to the spaceship. "Hell and Back"? Was that the name? And, after thinking about it - really all of the stories you put in the small book you printed a while back oughtta be in the new one. They're all fantastic.
Scott Base
Oh, great idea! I know the publisher is keen on including some extra content so I’ll see what they think!
Scott Base
Ah, great stuff! Thats really good to hear, particularly about cosmic phenotype - i still have a soft spot in my heart for those imaginary future birds!
Scott Base
Oh fantastic! Drawing the wasps on that one took me sooo long! 🤣 Actually that comic was directly inspired by reading the very short book Free Will by Sam Harris, if you fancy a bit more down that particular rabbit hole.
Ian Pillay
Definitely don't mind! Can't wait see what you create in 2025 ❤️
AxelJD
I love the "Your master's house," it made me really think about the concept for days. Excited for the print!
Carlos Avila
Paradise Found seems to tap into an uncomfortable mirror. The math tells us clearly which is the better choice but it doesn't matter. Something about River's End is believable and terrifying. Cosmic Phenotype is a meditation. It's the one I have as my phone's wallpaper.
Sebold
Exactly for that reason I like it so much! AI takeover is very grim most of the time, but you gave it a different approach. It was refreshing!
Scott Base
Wow, thank you Ian. I hope you don’t mind, but I showed your comment to my partner. It means a lot.
Scott Base
Thank you! And yes, in that case, definitely. Frankly, that one feels like one of my most hopeful comics, even though it’s about an AI takeover 🤣😅
Scott Base
YUS! Damn I love that woman.
SSC
Yeeessssss
Scott Base
Aww thank you!! Writing and drawing that comic was probably the most fun I’ve had doing these comics, I just love that book and album SO MUCH ❤️
Scott Base
Yay, thank you! Yes, I think those three will definitely make the list. I love exploring evolution, so definitely expect more of that from me 😊
Scott Base
You bet! In fact, I just formatted that one for print today!
SSC
YEAH!!! Please, please, please include the one where the astronaut is walking on the planet and his suit is slowly eatimg away at him to keep him "alive" until he gets to safety. That's the one I found you with and it's still my favorite
Cornelia F
This is so exciting!! I can't wait to have your work ready on my coffee table to show all my friends 😁 River's End, the one about the last of humanity living and evolving for thousands of years on a spaceship, really had an impact on me. The idea that humans could evolve "backwards" into something so alien and devoid of thoughts and senses is really thought provoking and spooky. So I'd love it if you included that one! And I also would love to see Neanderthal Secrets and Frankenstein God which have been mentioned 😊
stephen hill
The War of the World's piece, chef's kiss. Congrats on print!!
Amit Ungar
Got a couple more: Above Flatland Throne of Saturn The one about Medusa Mimic River's End ("tapeworm that dreams it's a man". Brilliant.)
Yelahneb Unicornucopiax
No Gods, No Heroes. Life changing for me in the best way
Amit Ungar
Yes! The Permi Faradox! 😄 It was so different than anything you made before, and it was absolutely brilliant in my opinion. Also, Weeds of Earth and Scour should definitely make the cut, as well as yhe one where an AI takes over humanity in secret and then spreads with them through space. Can't recall the name of that one, but it was wonderful. Also, is there a possibility that the book will include a behind-the-scenes segment? Even a small one? That could be so great!
Sebold
Congratulations! I would love to see "Frankenstein God". It is the one that had the seed planted inside me to support you here on patreon.
Caleb Jones
The Trekkie in me appreciated you tackling how fucked up that kind of tech actually is. Generation loss was the perfect approach to take
Ian Pillay
Just wanted say thank you Scott. Your stories are some of the most profound and beautiful creations I have seen in my life. I'm a colossal fan and definitely looking forward to buying the book!!
Scott Base
Absolutely! Thank you 🙏
Mickey
I’ll send you a PM - don’t want to dox myself publicly :D
Scott Base
Fantastic! I wasn’t sure about that one - it took me so long to write, I couldn’t tell what I thought of it by the end, so that’s really good to hear.
mistralwolf
Yeah the bear! And a longer version? That would be epic 💪🏾 Can't wait :) it's so far my favorite of your works!
Scott Base
Really? Thank you so much Mickey! I’d love to have a look at your website if you didn’t mind sharing?
Scott Base
The one with the bear? Yes! I’ve actually been scripting a longer version story of that I’m thinking of developing: I feel like there’s still so much more of that world to explore.
Scott Base
Really? Great! I was really pleased with how some of the art in that came out. And dread is so what I’m about afterall 😅
mistralwolf
I'd love if you could keep the one about exploring space via biological adaptation rather than space suits. The chrysalis scene was great
Scott Base
Ah, brilliant! That’s one of my few stories that I’m like, yes, that worked like I planned. 😁🙏
Caleb Jones
Amazing news! Dementia Ward is my personal favorite
Mickey
Congrats!! I make my living as an author and own a medium sized publishing company with a bunch of authors that work with us so if you ever have questions about what they’re telling you, feel free to ask :)
Scott Base
Oh the one about the alien idiots? Brilliant! I wasn’t sure if that even worked, I’m so glad you said that. And yes, Neanderthal Dreams: actually one of my stories I’m most proud of. Which is actually hard to admit, because I’m very self critical! 😅
Kelly Sheehan
Bookplate please!
Scott Base
Oh I would love to see that in a tattoo! It is also one of my favourite stories, so I’m so pleased to hear that ☺️
toilet_server
I would absolutely love a print book that includes Scour. It really inspires a feeling of dread, and it's nice when that comes from fiction, these days.
Al Geissler-Mitchell
Neanderthal secrets is a must imo
Scott Base
The suit will definitely be there, you bet! I will have to talk to the publisher about signed copies (as we live in different countries), but hopefully that should be doable. I certainly hope to arrange something special for Patreons, but I’m not sure what that will be yet. ❤️
Amit Ungar
Huzzah! 🥳🥳🥳 These are very good news! Now to go through your archive again...! 😆 Two that come to mind though are the one about the neanderthals and the neanderthal girl, and the more comic, Douglas-Adamsy one from not too long ago.
Selina Keaveney
Please please please include Empires, I absolutely adore that comic and read it frequently. Would love to incorporate it into a tattoo one day just need to find the right idea (and with your permission!)
Oba Chan
That is such amazing news, I'm so excited to see it and have it on my shelf! Please can you include the Suit in this collection as it's one of my absolute favorites. Do you think you'll be doing signed copies?
